Datarock - Fa Fa Fa from nettwerkmusic on Vimeo.

Hat tip to my internet Luddite friend Kiki for burning this band’s disc for me. To quote him: “Like Devo meets disco!”

Nina Simone remixes, which never get old:

I’ve seen Datarock twice now in live shows. They’re really fun. Norwegians in red track suits can’t be beat.

If you get the chance to see them live, go. They do a great stage show.

  2. “I used to dance with my daddy” is awesome- especially some of the remixes.

This is so perfect considering I bought extremely disco-ish jeans yesterday. Wide bellbottom-esque legs and a rise higher than anything I’ve seen in recent years. ROCK!

    disco. It’s how civilization ends.

Soon, archeology will justify my theory that the roman empire ends around the time they start doing disco. tacky dance, funny garb with too much cloth, extra glitter, cheesy 4/4 tempo, pop-ish lyric…. and possibly polyester suit and disco ball.

    just you wait.

Repent! Lambada is the true dance movement.

(hey, whatever happen to lambada anyway?)

If you like the smell of Datarock, you’ll love the geeky fresh scent of The Fixx, Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, and Yaz!

    the original nina simone.
(I think I posted that song a few months back. a big hit. I like the texture and the repetition. It has angry chant quality, truly scary.)

Eunice Kathleen Waymon, better known by her stage name Nina Simone (IPA: ninɐ sʌmɞnɑ) (February 21, 1933 – April 21, 2003), was a fifteen-time[citation needed] Grammy Award-nominated American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger and civil rights activist.

Simone was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon in Tryon, North Carolina, one of eight children. She began playing piano at her local church and showed prodigious talent on this instrument. Her concert debut, a classical piano recital, was made at the age of ten. During her performance, her parents, who had taken seats in the front row, were forced to move to the back of the hall to make way for white people. Simone refused to play until her parents were moved back.[3][4] This incident contributed to her later involvement in the civil rights movement.

NINA SIMONE — wild is the wind (another Nina simone’s lovely romance ballad, not as often played.)

David Bowie-Wild Is The Wind (his interpretation after talking to Nina. Nina’s version is actually from a movie soundtrack)

“Wild Is the Wind” is a song written by Dimitri Tiomkin and Ned Washington. The track was originally recorded by Johnny Mathis for the 1957 film Wild Is the Wind. The song was very popular and was one of five songs nominated for an Academy Award; it was sung by Johnny Mathis at the March 1958 Oscar presentations. It was later covered by Nina Simone on the album Wild Is The Wind (1966). David Bowie recorded a version of it in 1976 for his album Station to Station. Bowie was an admirer of Simone’s style, and after meeting her in Los Angeles was inspired to record the song for his album.
