OMG! You can get fetish apparel and accessories at an annual fetish convention? Why I had no idea! Thank God for Peter LaBarbara! I hope this year's expose give a closer, more hard-hitting look at the great value you get from a solid-wood paddle, or the sinfully tempting comfort of a custom-fitted gimp mask.

I can see why the hotel basically shuts down to the public for Mr Leather, as many people would be offended or uncomfortable if they accidentally stumbled across that, and that could lead to bad publicity for the hotel. So, that's reasonable. However, the hotel wouldn't do it if Mr Leather wasn't bringing in scads of money to make such an measure worthwhile. Which means Mr LaBarbara probably knows all the bitchy letter writing in the world isn't going to do a damn thing. Why does he give the impression that he'd not be so vocally against this stuff if he thought his reform efforts actually had an ice cubes chance in hell of working? Hmm....

OH THE HUMANITY!

I LOVE the fact that he has to "prove" how "right" he is that the convention is debauched at best, and to prove how much of a macho manly man for God he is with photos of teh gayz(!)

What a closet case.

"JAEEZUHZ! SAVE ME FROM THESE EVIL--ooh, is that a leather wrapped double-ended jagged-headed dildo WITH RHINESTONE BALLS?!? Don't tell my wife! *giggle*"

(and my apologies for the horrible sex toy reference. I have no idea if such things are even made....O.o)

Wait, being a widow is a destructive choice? What? Granted, I imagine that one’s supposed to joke but … well.

And I still don’t get the poverty thing.

I think Burroway was just being a bit clumsy in his writing, there. I think his point was not that widows and poverty are destructive choices or behaviors, but that they're things Christians are supposed to concerned about. As in Jesus said so. Directly. All the time.

Personally, I think articles like this are the perfect counter to the LaBarberas of this country, someone like this Jim Burroway actually stepping up to their fellow Christians and pointing out that while there are a few verses that condemn homosexuality, it's hardly the only sin in the Bible (in fact, a bunch of dietary laws that most Christians do not follow get a lot more press). On the other hand, the supposed incarnation of God on Earth just would not shut up about helping the less fortunate, so maybe you should take the beam out of your own eyes, y'all.

Being able to counter the crazies on their own ground can only help.

Jennifer,

I think the idea is that the Bible makes a far bigger deal about working to alleviate poverty and help widows than it does about rejecting teh ghay.

They act as if that is the BIG sin in the scriptures, dismissing all other destructive behaviors and choices.

And I still don't get the poverty thing. I don't know about the rest of you, but I chose to have to move back to a bad job market where the only decent job was at a factory that is now rumored to be closing any day now. I thought it would be fun! *eyeroll*

I keep hearing Crist's name pop up for the VP spot, and I think it's clear he'd take the slot if it were offered, but even if the questions about his sexuality weren't there, he'd still be a non-starter with the Republican base because he's actually governed fairly moderately, except on taxes and education. I hate him, no question, but compared to his predecessor (Jeb!) and the guy who would succeed him if he left the statehouse, he's not half bad.
