Oh fun, fun, fun. Look at what landed in my inbox from Matt “Bam Bam” Barber of Concerned Women for America - they are shipping in fundies to support Sally Kern:

Free Speech Rally for Sally
Over 50 Pastors organize rally to support besieged
Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern

DATE: Wednesday, April 2
TIME: 12:00pm Noon
WHERE: Rotunda of the Oklahoma State Building
2300 N. Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City Oklahoma

Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, April 2, Concerned Women for America (CWA) will join over 50 pastors in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to rally support for State Representative Sally Kern (R-Oklahoma City) and her right to free speech. Recently, Rep. Kern has been under attack from radical homosexual activists and their followers over remarks she made regarding the homosexual agenda. Rep. Kern took a Biblical stand against homosexual activism and has refused to back down from her statements despite receiving death threats.

CWA applauds Rep. Kern for continuing to be steadfast and resolute in this fight against the homosexual agenda and for shedding light on the threat it poses to our nation. Rep. Kern has been quoted as saying that the homosexual agenda is dangerous “because it destroys the basic moral fiber of this nation, which is traditional marriage and the traditional family.” She couldn’t be more right.

By, the way, Matt, a new copy of The Homosexual Agenda has been distributed. Please update your files.

The bleating continues below the fold.

Matt Barber, CWA’s Policy Director for Cultural Issues, said, “There are certainly those who hate Rep. Kern. They’ve made that perfectly clear with vicious personal attacks and even death threats. But millions of Americans proudly stand alongside Sally Kern and say, ‘Thank you. Thank you for boldly standing your ground and for unapologetically defending Biblical Truth.’ They intended to make an example of her. They have, but not in the way they had hoped. She has set an example for millions of believers around the world. Her courage and refusal to deviate from God’s unequivocal condemnation of sexual immorality is serving to galvanize and embolden others. People say, ‘Well Sally Kern wasn’t intimidated, why should I be?’”

CWA of Oklahoma State Director, Linda Caswell, said “Rep. Kern has exercised her right to free speech and has spoken boldly about the effects of homosexuality on our families and on our nation. We strongly encourage everyone to come to the rally and show your support for Rep. Kern. Let others know that we will not back down from taking a Biblical stand on the moral issues facing our state and our nation today.”

Concerned Women for America is the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization.

Steve Ralls at Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) National has a post up on Sally’s slippery positions over the last week over her meeting with representatives from the Oklahoma organization. After meeting with P-FLAG, she sent out signals that employment discrimination against gays was wrong, but she quickly backtracked on that one, saying that “I will never retract my comments that homosexuality is a sin“.

P-FLAG on “The Sally Three-Step:”

It seems as if Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern is determined to do some fancy footwork to avoid even the perception that she might be open-minded enough to consider another view.

Her repetitive routine of one step forward and two steps back should now just be called “The Sally Three-Step.”

Fact: Thursday’s press release from PFLAG specifically states that, “Kern did not express an apology during today’s meeting, nor did she back away from any of her earlier comments.” We never said that Kern changed her views on sexual orientation and “sin.”

Then, Kern took issue with PFLAG’s report that she had indicated lesbian and gay Americans should not be fired from their jobs because of their sexual orientation. “I unequivocally do not support sexual orientation laws,” she said. “While I do not advocate employers going on a witch hunt to fire homosexual employees who are performing their jobs in a manner just like any heterosexual employee, I do not support laws that would force employers to check their First Amendment rights to freedom of religion, speech, and association at the workplace door.”

Go read the rest for a full fact check on Sally’s statements.

Where have I heard that before?
    WAIT! I remember now:

“The National Government will regard it as its first and foremost duty to revive in the nation the spirit of unity and cooperation. It will preserve and defend those basic principles on which our nation has been built. It regards Christianity as the foundation of our national morality, and the family as the basis of national life.”

These people never seem to get it into their exquisitely coiffed heads that “free speech” does NOT mean freedom from criticism.

Nor do “rights to freedom of religion, speech, and association” entail the right to discriminate against others and rob them of their livelihoods.

  3. Damn straight, free speech for Sally! I find it reprehensible that she was arrested and put in prison for her statements! Free her!

Oh wait, she wasn’t arrested? She in fact has suffered no consequences beyond being criticized for her bigotry? But that would mean that CWA and these groups have no idea about the meaning of free speech! How odd.

Bleatings indeed. They have absolutely no concern whatsoever about “rights to free speech.”

Even if the rights to free speech worked the way they seem to think, and regardless of whether or not her rights were actually abridged in any way, I can just imagine what exactly these same people would be saying and demanding if her remarks were anti-Christian or anti-religion rather than anti-gay.

The demands for her head would be heard nationwide, freedom of speech be damned.

These people wouldn’t know a principle if it hit them in the face.

  5. Attention fellow Oklahomans, especially you politicians: I am sick and tired of feeling ashamed of our beautiful state and some of the yayhoos in it. Please just grow the fuck up so I can stop feeling like I need to apologize for you all the time. That is all.

    Raznor wins.

They couldn’t have had the decency to plan that meeting for today, when it would have been infinitely more appropriate, eh?

  7. Who the hell has said she can’t say want she wants? Aren’t these the same numbnuts who bark about what Rev. Wright said and blather stuff about Free Speech also comes with responsibility.

Aren’t these the same assholes who got offended with what Natalie Maines said, and then said she shouldn’t be upset when people disagree with what she said

this has nothing to do with free speech

Oh yes they do, but only when it applies to Democrats, progressives, liberals, anti war protestors, GLBT activists, etc. etc.

Why is it that when we try to make conservatives apologize for being douches they cry free speech but when they ask us to apologize for “lack of patriotism” they don’t have a problem?

  10. calliopejane

Gah!!!! It makes me so stabby the way these people think their right to free speech is protected only if mine is abridged!

Yes, you are free to say disgusting hateful bigoted things without charge or interference from the government or law enforcement. AND I AM FREE TO SAY YOU ARE A DISGUSTING HATEFUL BIGOT!

See how that free-speech thing works JUST THE SAME for BOTH of us? yes?

    no of course they don’t see… stab-stab-stabbity-stab!

  11. I am sick and tired of feeling ashamed of our beautiful state and some of the yayhoos in it.

    All states are probably beautiful, until people show up. {sigh}

    (And I don’t even LIKE nature!}

    “Sally wasn’t intimidated”?
Oh, really?Seems to me she purposely avoids any contact with anyone who might disagree with her or call her on her bullshit. She even declined an invitation to appear on “The Ellen Degeneres show” because she didn’t want to enter, in her words, “the lion’s den.”
She called ELLEN’s show “the lion’s den”. Think about that-who the fuck is scared of talking to Ellen?
    What a wuss.

Having read the Gay Agenda, I was wondering if the following statement in item eleven applied to the traditional teaching of the Catholic Church on homosexual behavior.

“We denounce churches of all faiths which attempt to cause psychological or spiritual abuse or harm to teenagers and youth of homosexual orientation or gender variance.”

  15. One wonder’s what Kern’s view would be of employers were to refuse to hire somebody because the employer was an atheist and the prospective employee was some variety of extreme Christian, and the employer was offended by the congregation’s stance on, effectively, denying access to a living wage to those who were GLBT?

  16. Why is it that when we try to make conservatives apologize for being douches they cry free speech but when they ask us to apologize for “lack of patriotism” they don’t have a problem?

BECAUSE, you lousy LIE-bral, good PATRIOTIC AH-Mericans DIED for the right to FREE SPEECH which you are ABUSING, which NO OTHER COUNTRY in the world has, and for which they are STILL DYING, defending the towns and farms of America over in Iraq. *sniff*

FREE SPEECH is only a right as long as it is kept WITHIN bounds! Commie!!

Oh, well, that makes sense. The wool is lifted from my eyes!
