Via Jessica, this vlog is right on:

But I do have one quarrel. After all, pimps are glorified by the industry, so this isn’t even about sex. It’s about women—and how our place is on our backs, not at the mic.

Bonus video, after the fold:

We’re going to see this band tonight. It will make up some for my being sick through all of SXSW. Far from completely, but I’m trying to learn to get over deep bitterness at those things I can’t change, at least in terms of live shows missed:

Hi I like your blog, I just want you to know, at neopets people get banned for the stupid shit. like I got banned for saying “ass” on their forums, isn’t that retarded? Next time you should talk about how neopets censors people, esp. WOMEN who use “ass.”

Have fun down there at Stubbs. I was there last week to see Dropkick Murphys. What a blast! I hope you don’t get rained on…..ha ha. It would be fun wet or dry. Thanks for the videos. I am sending the first one to my son the aspiring rapper. People gotta wake up.

Pah! They play Austin, but the closest they get to me is freakin’ Indio, and Coachella is too much of an ordeal, even if there are any tickets left.

    Pah! I say

  6. Did a music executive really say her song was terrible? I guess his company isn’t still in the running for her contract, not that she necessarily needs one since she just made $200,000 in online sales.

And Amanda: pimping is about making money, not sex. Sure, the money is from sex, but that’s okay since there’s money involved. Just like drug dealers are cool because they’re sellers, not addicts. Or something twisted like that. After all, the pursuit of money is a masculine trait, and women who do so are clearly whores. Duh. Even music executives knows that.

  7. Pimping isn’t just about making money. It’s about getting to own women. Literally treating other people like property no doubt feels powerful indeed.

  8. I saw Gogol Bordello last week & they played 2 hours of awesome.

He’s this odd mixture of Robert Downey and Vin Diesel . . which somehow makes the message carry weight in presentation.

Intellectually, the message could have been read by Ben Stein in full monotone and it’d work.

  10. Anybody who can discuss this sort of issue with a cat over their shoulder grooming their hair is to be listened to, IMO.

The music industry chews people up and spits them out, making sure to bleed every last dollar out of them as quickly as possible. Since when do they hold a moral standpoint?

  11. I find this guy to be incredibly hot. I blame feminism for pointing him out.
