“The radical Islamists, the al-Qaida … would be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on Sept. 11 because they would declare victory in this war on terror.”
Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa 5th), basing his prediction of a possible Obama presidency on the Illinois senator’s pledge to pull troops out of Iraq, his Kenyan heritage and his middle name, Hussein.
King, who is up for re-election in a conservative district, said in the next breath that his comments were not meant to demean Obama. I wonder if McCain thinks this is how his supporters on the Hill should campaign on his behalf.

In what cannot be a surprise to Blenders, this is on King’s web site:

I support marriage between one man and one woman. Marriage is the building block of the family, of community and of society. I do not support allowing special legal rights based on sexual orientation. I believe the traditional American family, together with conservative values, forms the bedrock of our free society. States should not be forced to recognize the same-sex marriages of other states. I am the original co-sponsor of a Constitutional amendment to defend the definition of marriage as the union between a man and a woman.

Makes you wonder if this piece of work is going to be Larry Flynt’s next target?

Then again, Iowa seems to be blue shifting this year, and this guy is running scared. He forgets that Obama comes from a neighboring state.

” I do not support allowing special legal rights based on sexual orientation.”

Sure he does. He wants to limit marriage only to people who have a heterosexual orientation. Isn’t that special.

  3. As has already been pointed out, he does support allowing special legal rights based on sexual orientation - he supports giving only heterosexuals the right to marry, based solely on the fact that they’re heterosexual.

Maybe what he actually means is “I do not support allowing any legal rights to those of a non-heterosexual orientation”.

  4. ..because they would declare victory in this war on terror.”

I take it then that they would exult in the victory over….them?

  5. King is Rep for my aunts and uncles’ district. I swore I’d never enter that part of the state again after my grandmother’s funeral. Crazy-ass right-wing dutch calvinists.

  6. Ms Kate

    Crazy-ass right-wing dutch calvinists

For those who don’t understand this, the original puritans who settled New England were pretty much of this same theology.

Back in the late 70s in Portland Oregon, my aunt had a couple of roommates who liked to sleep over with their boyfriends. The womens’ parents came from this sect and lived in Montana. She had a really great time having the house to herself for the price of fielding the nightly calls. “Oh, Mrs. Bruinsma, I’m sorry but she’s at the Prayer Social”.

  7. pablo

Of course McCain approves. What made you think he had scruples, his fawning media coverage?

  8. The radical Islamists, the al-Qaida … would be dancing in the streets

So is there a duet with Mick Jagger in the works? That would be one nutty video.

  9. Oh, Mrs. Bruinsma, I’m sorry but she’s at the Prayer Social”

    ROFLMFAO!!!!!

  10. The “radical Islamists,” otherwise known as Muslims-without-oil. He also sounds especially stupid referring to “the al-Qaida.” It’s redundant (”al” in Arabic marks a prepositional phrase) and assumes terrorism in the Middle East moves with the same motion. Lame.

  11. No doubt he thinks this was a great move by Great Leader:

This Steve King sounds like a real “Creepshow”…

  12. CParis

“terrorists would be “dancing in the streets” if Democratic candidate Barack Obama were to win the presidency.”

Excellent! Then we can just grab them all at the Obama Day Parade in Baghdad rather than getting blowed up chasing them all over Iraq.

  13. “This Steve King sounds like a real “Creepshow”…”

Great bad horror movie reference (and pun), louise!

Even though it’s bad, I’ll watch it any time it come on the tube… :)

  14. On topic…

I don’t know how the US could do a better job of building up “The radical Islamists, the al-Qaida” than the Bush Jr. mis-administration, unless we literally gave them arms, explosives, money, and technical assistance…

  15. “I do not support allowing special legal rights based on sexual orientation.”

Fine, then, buddy, I’m glad to have you on our side in no longer reserving the special legal right to marriage for heterosexuals only.

Logic doesn’t even visit his universe, does it.

  16. “Logic doesn’t even visit his universe, does it.”

Samantha, logic just gets in the way of the authority worship…

  17. Ms Kate

He confuses “special rights” with “special righteousness”.

  18. Katherine

“unless we literally gave them arms, explosives, money, and technical assistance…

… the irony being that the US and other countries did, in fact, give them arms, explosives, money and technical assistance when they were the Afghan mujahideen. A certain Osama Bin Laden was an organiser of foreign volunteers in the mujahideen.

  19. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5587385

    Steve King= Tom Tancredo

    ‘Nuff said!

  20. “… the irony being that the US and other countries did, in fact, give them arms, explosives, money and technical assistance when they were the Afghan mujahideen.”

Not only that, but for all intents and purposes, the US in effect doing similar things in Iraq right now, and to some extent in Pakistan too. We Americans never learn…

  21. We Americans never learn…

Still TBD… let’s wait until November to see if we HAVE learned anything!!

  22. Barack Obama 4,000 votes 59%
    Hillary Clinton 2,756 40%
    Uncommitted 64 1%

Wyoming returns from MSNBC; about 75% in.

  23. “I do not support allowing special legal rights based on sexual orientation.

What he *does* support, however, is special rights based on gender.

He (and others of his school of thought) doesn’t give a rat’s ass is two homosexuals marry each other - as long as one is a man and the other is a woman.

Gender is the issue, not orientation.

  24. But on the cover of the National Enquirer it says that Obama has close ties to a terroist who is listed as a close friend.

It must be true, it’s on the cover. :-(

  25. And actually I can’t tell which is worse: Fox News or the National Enquirer…

  26. idiosynchronic, The Unhip Carobonated Beverage

I was traveling yesterday and saw Steve King be the story of the day on CNN . . . King and that whole 3rd of the state he represents should be seceded to Louisana or Mississippi.

  27. Matie

This guy sounds like a nut case. Unfortunately, I think this is exactly the type of slime the Republican party will use against Obama, should he be the Democratic nominee.

  28. princess

If we are to assume that Barack “Hussein” Obama’s name in any way correlates to “the al-Queda” taking a victory lap, then can we also assume that Mr. King is the monarch of Iowa?

He ought to be ashamed of his bass-ackwards views and insulting comments. Why do politicians continue to think that it’s okay to lambast a group of people because they’re different?
