Feministing has started a feminist meet-up alliance. Make one for your own city! Does anyone in Austin think this would fly here?

I think that it would work as long as everyone plays nice.
Some of my college friends and I have monthly feminist dinners where we get together to talk about current events as they relate to feminism. It’s nice to be with a group of people that you can talk to and not have to worry that they don’t know what hetero-normativity or FTM means.
I’d be up for it.
I think it would work here in Austin. Do you have any locations in mind?
Newark, Delaware of all places! I have the hardest time finding stuff like this to attend. I’m happy to see someone is going to start one in my area.
Sigh. Someone PLEASE invite Charlotte Allen, and, I don’t know…shame her? Something? Tar and feather? With your mad wits?

Drinking Liberally goes to the Dog and Duck. It’s hard to beat that for a location that suits all tempermants.
I would totally go to an Austin meetup.
Heh - the Atheist Community of Austin goes to Dog and Duck too - they must know something.
You could go to a Cold Stone Creamery for the meetup, like the one my cousin from Georgetown goes to once a week to enjoy herself, unbeknownst to her hubby………………………
Up for an Austin meetup.
True, it’s hard to beat Dog & Duck as far as laid-back pub atmospheres go, but I don’t know about going to the same place twice a week, even if it is for some good high-minded conversation with intelligent, thoughtful people.
I’d try to make time in my schedule, that’s for sure. And the Dog and Duck is great.
I’d like to meet some “out feminist” folks in Austin. Dog y Duck is fine, but other ideas might be Scholz’s, , Ruta Maya on South Congress (right behind a “gentleman’s club”!), or Gene’s PoBoys and New Orleans Deli on east 11th (BYOB but there’s an icehouse across the street).
We just had a Pharyngula sciency-atheisty thing here in Boston. About 30 people showed up, I’m guessing (we ended up scattered and eating in different locations).
A good time, and good beer, was had by all.
Go for it, and have a blast! And pictures!
As a former Austinite who is sad she’ll be missing these meetups…I just figured you might want to know the Dog and Duck only serves beer and wine. It was never a good meetup spot for those of us who like something a bit harder. Kept me away from the Austin Drinking Liberally meetups. I would recommend Mother Egan’s. Gawd I miss that place.
I would also be up for an Austin meet-up.
Oh come ON…I’m next to DC, there aren’t any interested feminists in DC??
I would totally be up for this. Anywhere is good; I’m partial to Ruta Maya and Scholz’s. Ruta has great snacks, and Sholz’s has good sandwiches…plus Ruta is full of hippies, and Sholz’s has all that proud texas liberal history.
i live in houston but i’ll drive to austin for a meet up!
I’d be up for it. Although I heard a nasty rumor that the D&D is going to close, to be bulldozed and replaced by yet more high-priced downtown infill.
sounds great…i went to the progressive dems viewing of the austin debate at mother egan’s and would certainly return for a regular visit…
excellent. went to the progdem viewing of the austin debate at mother egan’s and would love to make a weekly trip to mother’s
bah, yet another reason to lament having to leave Austin for work.
Karen, want to help set up a Houston feminist drinking extravaganza?
I would totally be up for an Austin feminist meetup. Hells yeah.
