You’ll have to surf over to Jesus’ General to get the scoop on this asshat, who will now have the Secret Service looking into mind-blowing commentary by former GOP official and Sean Hannity regular, hate radio host Hal Turner. From the General’s first post:

Apparently, Hal’s removed his thinly-veiled call for the assassination of Barack Obama. Maybe it made his FBI handlers a tad bit uncomfortable.

It’s also not available in archive form. One wonders why such an heroically brave man would use cache exclusion code to deny posterity the opportunity to read his important words.

What did Turner say that he erased? It’s after the jump.

Take a look:
The REAL Barack Obama:

Is THIS the type of guy you want running America? I Don’t!

In fact, I’m starting to come to the realization that it may be up to a sole person, acting alone, to make certain this guy is never allowed to hold the most powerful office in the world. Sorry it may have to be that way, but it may.

Well that was “disappeared,” but apparently Hal can’t help himself and did it again, though this time the General was ready and obtained a screenshot to pass on to the Secret Service. Just a snippet on Turner’s call for the use of the highly poisonous agent ricin to TCOB:
Since as little as 500 micrograms of ricin can kill an adult, I wonder if smearing some on a glove then shaking hands with. . . . . . Barak Obama or Hillary Clinton or John McCain. . . . would have some effect? Probably not. But I wonder if loading some in a straw equipped with a one-way valve at one end to protect the user, would allow ricin powder to be blown in the direction of a candidate for inhalation? HMMMMMMM. It’s a good thing that I obey the law and have no intention of doing something like this personally!
He also currently has this post up on his site:
DAVID DUKE: “I don’t think Obama is any worse than Hillary or John McCain”
Wow. What a complete sell-out

David Duke just rolled over folks. He did a barrel roll right off Niagara Falls in my view.

How any so-called “White Nationalist” could say such a thing is beyond belief. Kind words from David Duke for a mixed-race, mongrelized negro? It reeks of surrender so badly as to be cowardice.

An earlier Blend post on Turner is here.

By the way, the General is holding a fundraiser - hit his tip jar if you enjoy his work for the cause.

  1. Somehow it feels like America has regressed 40-years or more.

But I guess it’s not so much that we’ve regressed, as much as it’s an indication of how little some of us have progressed.

I took William F. Buckley’s death earlier this week as a good sign. But I guess WFB’s spirit (in a little cruder form) lives on in idiots like Hal Turner.

That man ought to just wear a white sheet and save everybody time by properly labeling himself right up front…

  2. I….

    I….

    What the fuck.

I don’t even know what to say about people like this. I think I’m just going to go crawl into bed and cry. I’ve had enough of this crap to last me a lifetime.

  3. …and I forgot to add that it’s an open question whether the Secret Service gives a flying fuck about keeping Obama safe…

  4. Anon

I must say it is pretty awesome hearing Hal Turner talk use the phrase “barrel roll.”

  5. I’m frankly surprised he took the trouble to be that subtle.

  6. Anyone think Turner will really get into any trouble?

I’m assuming they’ll say, “Well, he didn’t say specifically that he wanted Obama dead, so we can’t do anything…” And then they’ll all start wearing black gloves and offering to shake his hand. Just for giggles, see? It’s just a joke!

The Secret Service is not to be trusted.

  7. Is there some reason to think the Secret Service wouldn’t take its responsiblities seriously in the case of Obama?

  8. Medicine Man

From what I’ve heard, Obama’s secret service detail are being about as intimidating and hyper vigilant as the service has ever been.

  9. Amy

Hmmm, why don’t those links work?

    I’m speechless. Holy shit.

  10. Danica Lefse Queen

    witless chum-
after they stopped checking for weapons at an event in DALLAS of all places on an order from Secret Service…
    http://pandagon.blogsome.com/2008/02/21/virginia-academic-white-supremacists-gather-at-conference/

There is a reason to worry.

  11. witless chum: Yes. Namely, that they haven’t been.

  12. 1. How the hell does someone get away with airing these “ideas” in public, when Secret Service agents have investigated schoolchildren for projects where they voice disapproval of W?

    2. How does this guy keep his job? I would not want to be associated with his words.

    3. Wow. Someone more racist than David Duke. I am trying to wrap my mind around that.

    4. I hope Obama wins the presidency and lives a long and happy life. But because of nuts like this, I hope he chooses his VP very carefully.

  13. I’m hoping the VP would be a vengeful sort.

  14. bacopa

I can’t believe that a radio host would up this kind of thing up on his own website. I’m not suprised that he thinks it, just that he would be so stupid to make it official.

We do indeed have to start thinking about VP nominees, don’t we. Not sure Obama can wrap it up on Tues, but if he gets both Ohio and Texas it’s all over.

I think Wes Clark would be a cool Veep, but he’s a big friend of the Clintons. Edwards? Anyone hear any talk out there?

  15. preying mantis

“1. How the hell does someone get away with airing these “ideas” in public, when Secret Service agents have investigated schoolchildren for projects where they voice disapproval of W?”

He’ll very probably be investigated by the SS. I don’t believe they have the ability to turn down requests to investigate/reports of threats without a particularly good reason. The question is whether anything more serious will come of their investigation of Suggestion McGee than came of their investigations of the aforementioned school children.

“3. Wow. Someone more racist than David Duke. I am trying to wrap my mind around that.”

It’s entirely possible he was just trying to be more racist than David Duke. I wouldn’t be surprised to find that Duke does not consider a woman who’s made repeated and at least somewhat sincere overtures to the black community and a man who went so far as to adopt a “black” child–probably both “race traitors” or collaborators in his mind–any better as candidates than a black man.

  16. Spare-time project: look up the stations that carry this jerkwad. File an objection to their license renewal.

  17. RE: Making Light link

Egad. I wonder if this has been usual practice in the past, but even if it was, anyone think Obama isn’t under a unique level of threat?

  18. Ms Kate

NB: these guys are pretty stupid about ricin.

    end comment

  19. Ah yes, the fearsome Hal Turner. I wonder if he’ll even see a letter of protest for his calls to assassinate a presidential candidate.

    My guess: no.

  20. Now getting on the Constitution train, if a court finds that his words constitute “true threats” or “incitement” he can be enjoined from further speaking / publishing them.

Whether that knowledge will stop him is anyone’s guess.

The fact that he himself does not perceive a problem with apparently advocating for someone’s death is chilling.

  21. togolosh

I think the issue of the Secret Service stopping weapons checks is overblown. They were faced with a situation of either keeping hundreds of people out of the rally or letting them in without a check. Given that the weapons check is one of the multiple layers of defense they use in protecting their principal, I think they made the right call. The chances of someone taking a weapon to a rally where the Secret Service is checking for weapons and waiting in line while a few hundred people in front of him are checked on the off chance that they’ll stop checking is minimal.

If the protective detail was reduced and big holes in security became standard, that would be another matter entirely. As a one-off or only occasional practice, adapting the security procedures to the situation is quite reasonable.

  22. Ladies and germs, THIS is why 7chan beat Hal Turner’s ass like a dead horse.

  23. I have been so worried for Obama’s life, and not for the fuzzy/fluffy “you feel that way because Kennedy offered hope to and his life was cut short. But because Obama winning threatens these cretins and their ideology in so many ways . . . I fear that they will feel they have to shut him down.

So I clickes on the Turner show link and read

    Code 55
It looks like Hal’s declared a Code 55:

Code 55 in effect as of March 1
Those who need to know what this means already know.
Those who don’t know, don’t need to know.

JC General added this when he noted it: I wish he’d stop declaring these at the last minute like this. Where’s a guy going to find a clean-shaven goat this late at night?

Some person who says he worked at the SPLC says the code means that there will be an attmept on Obma’s life March 5.

I don’t know but I hope that teh SS isn’t all Obama has for security (because after Bush I don’t know if I trust anyone or any department until we get them out of our house)

  24. Divergent Dana

It’s funny… when I heard this, I had the exact same thought I did when I saw T.I. on some hip-hop discussion on TV the other day — “Isn’t he supposed to be in jail?” Seriously, I knew White Nationalist types were probably going into conniptions about Obama, and there is a palpable fear among some in the black community that he may be assassinated, but damn. How f***ing obvious could he be? *shakes head* Reminds me of a Voltaire quote my friend always says… “I always made one prayer to God, a very short one. Here it is: ‘O Lord, make our enemies quite ridiculous!’ God granted it.”

  25. Skullhunter, Archdemon of Coffee Beverages

My own personal, I think Hal is trying to do damage control on his reputation with the white power crowd after it came out that he might just be narking them off to the feds for fun and profit. I’m betting his Secret Service visit consists of being told “Dammit Hal, would you switch to decaf or something? Don’t bury yourself in the part.”

Naturally this whole thing is just one more indication that, much like COINTELPRO, the feds mixing with and in some cases funding and directing white supremacists hasn’t stopped at all, it’s just been moved farther into the shadows.

  26. Libertarian

Amazingly enough, I knew Turner years ago when he was, dare I say it, ….. normal. He was once a hard working, rescue squad volunteer in a small town in New Jersey, where I also was a volunteer (I know, I know, you hate to hear that libertarians volunteer).

When he was active in politics (and when Hannity was friendly with him), he was a right of center, but fairly normal politically active guy. As his … bigotry, what else could you call it … came out, he was jettisoned by the Hudson County machine - I mean that is now a largely hispanic area, with blacks, and other ethnics too, and hardly a place where he could fit in. He hasn’t been on Hannity’s show in a loooooong time.

He seems to have gone gradually off the rails into some weird never never land of hate. Too bad, and very sad, he was once a very capable volunteer (I saw him on calls to auto accidents, etc, saving peoples’ lives (or helping); he was an officer and membership chairman for the squad - none of his bigotry was evident then.

I don’t think he has a regular “radio show” on regular stations.

  27. I’m never following those links again.

    That type of hate is..

I just don’t have words for it…and I can’t scrub it out of my brain.

What happens if they succeed and assassinate Obama? Can the country survive another botched election?

  28. Velvet Elvis

The secret service and FBI know all about turner.

    http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2008/01/11/neo-nazi-threatmaker-accused-of-working-for-fbi/

He gets away with this because he eats his own.

  29. Fred

Let’s keep linking Hannity to Turner! That way you can exposing two racists bigots, at one time!

  30. Now getting on the Constitution train, if a court finds that his words constitute “true threats” or “incitement” he can be enjoined from further speaking / publishing them.

Considering that the Supreme Court found that the “Nuremburg Files” website was perfectly legal even though it supplied the addresses of abortion doctors and crossed out/grayed out their names if they were killed or wounded, don’t pin your hopes on any kind of injunction. Unless he puts a mob together and marches at its head to the person’s house with guns, you’re not going to get him on an incitement charge.

  31. W. Kiernan

I wold like to point out to people who are talking about the Secret Service protecting Obama, that during the height of the post-9/11 panic, someone attacked Democratic congressmen with anthrax, and in the following six years not one damn thing has been done about it.

Going further back, the Secret Service failed to protect Robert Kennedy and John Kennedy.

  32. Ben

You know whats really weird? McCain is apparently declining secret service protection entirely.

  33. I say the Democrats make the GOP own this guy the way that the GOP are trying to make Obama own his pastor.

  34. Ahh, Hal Turner. That stirs up warm memories for me.

The first time I ever witnessed/plausibly denied participating in the voice of the internet rising up and giving shit to someone who deserves it for once.

    ah, such lulz.

  35. togolosh —

Actually, if you read the supplie3d links, it appears that the Secret Service *are* making this reduced effort part of the standard.

If this kind of thing happens once, you tell the agent in charge — don’t allow it again — and that word gets passed through the ranks.

if it happens twice you seriously work out a systemic fix.

For the reported frequency of this, it has to have been approved at the top.

  36. Peace to you and yours Pam. I have a post at my place that shows what I believe is the meaning of “Code 55″ which Hal Turner issued along with these “ideas”. I have called the Secret Service Hq in DC with my concerns.
    Peace.

  37. Peace to you and yours Pam. I believe I have the meaning of “Code 55″ as called for by Hal Turned in his same post as his “ideas”. I posted about it at my place. I have notified the Secret Service of my concerns.
    Peace.

  38. Peace to you and yours Pam. I posted at my place what I believe to be the meaning of “Code 55″. I notified the Secret Service of my concerns.
    Peace.

  39. hickory

Oh, please. Turner is in cahoots with the feds so he can say pretty much whatever he wants and get away with it. The use him like flypaper to attract the loons.
