The only way this could have been better is if he’d started throwing condoms at them.

  1. More politicians need to tell those asswipes to shove their misogyny.

  2. Maybe it’s just me/my computer but…the video quality is so bad I can’t really tell what he’s saying. Anyone want to whip up a transcript for poor little me?

  3. felagund

He could have thrown billiard balls at them. Now *that* would have been better.

  4. Ms. Kate

I wonder if CharBark started something here … or at least led a successful feasibility study in talking back to the False Followers.

  5. He could have thrown billiard balls at them. Now *that* would have been better.

    Bowling balls.

  6. As much as I’ve been disappointed by the Clinton campaign this cycle..and as much as I think — based on my own observations of the anti-choice forces — that’s Obama’s response to them in NH was, in the long run, the correct one…

…I have to say that watching this brought one hell of a smile to my face. This is the Bill Clinton that gives a damn, doesn’t triangulate, and is a forceful and powerful advocate for basic human rights. And damnit, I miss That Man.

  7. realityfighter

Fuckin’ sweet. Now if we can get that kind of fire out of Hilary, she’d be super-badass.

  8. I know we were making fun of Althouse for thinking she’s married to Bill, but when he gets like this I totally wanna’ marry him myself.

  9. Blue Jean

If only Hillary had Bill’s charisma and speaking ability, she’d be the front runner right now.

What am I saying? If Hillary (or any woman) had spoken like Bill just spoke, she’d be ripped apart for being shrill, bitchy, and/or whiny– just like Hillary is being ripped apart right now.

    Anyway–Yay, Bill!

Transcript via Our Bodies Our Blog:

“We disagree with you. You want to criminalize women and their doctors and we disagree. I reduced abortion. Tell the truth! Tell the truth! If you were really pro-life, if you were really pro-life, you would want to put every doctor and every mother, as an accessory to murder, in prison, and you won’t say you wanna do that, because you know that you wouldn’t have a lick of political support. Now, the issue is, you can’t name me anybody presently in politics that did more to introduce policies that reduce the number of real abortions, instead of the hot air putting out to tear people up and make votes by dividing America. This is not your rally. I heard you.”

  11. happyfungirl

    That’s a real man.

  12. realityfighter

Ugh, anybody read the comments/description on that video? Even by youtube standards, they’re pretty retarded.

  13. rowmyboat

Shit, they got told. Go Bill.

  14. stormkite

Thing is, when Hillary cuts loose she makes Bill look TAME.

And the same thing happens to her that happened to Howard Dean. There’s not one chance in ten million that anyone (even Democrats) will pay the slightest bit of attention to what she’s actually SAYING or accept that she’s worked up because she really CARES. The Republicans don’t care because she’s a woman and the Democrats don’t care because she stayed with Bill, and because she’s smart enough to temper her policy ambitions to what’s actually POSSIBLE. She’s an automaton, a cold calculating bitch without an iota of real feeling, so no matter what you see it can’t be real.

    Oh well.

  15. Oh, swoon. I want to see more of this from more of our leaders.

  16. Ultra Magnus

Rock on. That was frakkin’ awesome. I will echo what others have said: we need way more of this.

  17. Bella

See, I was all pissed off at him for his recent douchey behavior, and then he goes and does something like that, and I am reminded again of just how damn awesome the guy can be. I think we’re on to a real winner with the “so are you planning to send women and their doctors to prison, or do you think they should be executed?” line of attack.

  18. history_mom

It’s about goddamn time a progressive politician called the pro-forced pregnancy brigade on their shit instead of conceding the “moral sincerity” of their position.

    Fuck yeah.

  19. Andruw

    Holy crap that was awesome.

  20. Persimmon

Hell. Yeah. Could the frontrunners take a page from that book, please?

  21. teac

    First Charles Barkley, now Bill.

    Who’s next?

    {pops popcorn, opens beer, waits with baited breath}

  22. Hell yeah! It reminds me of when Kerry was asked why abortion opponents should have their taxes go to paying for abortions. Except, while Bill’s answer is bad ass, Kerry’s was just bad.

  23. He could have thrown billiard balls at them. Now *that* would have been better.

    Bowling balls.

And yell at them about drinking milkshakes…couldn’t resist.

  24. Dear Democratic Establishment:

    More like that please. :D

  25. Oh man. That is why I will ALWAYS be proud that he was the first person I voted for! (I turned 18 at the end of August, 1996.)

And, everyone stay calm, but it my squinting leads me to believe that it looks like those are two white dudes holding up the SAVE THE BABIEZZZZZ!!11 signs.

    Shocking, I know.

  26. Liz

“If only Hillary had Bill’s charisma and speaking ability, she’d be the front runner right now.”

This sentiment irritates me to no-end. Hillary has plenty of charisma and she is fiery when it is appropriate. I am really tired of her being evaluated based on a completely subjective line of reasoning…. charismatic, harumph!

  27. Speaking of Bill, I highly recommend this link. It’s great to see Democratic figures like Carter, Clinton and Gore go on to keep doing humanitarian work once they’ve left politics.

    http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/85

The comment section is classic Clinton bashing tho’.

  28. idiosynchronic, The Unhip CArbonated Beverage

The vid’s no longer available . . *kicks desk*

At least the transcript is rockin’ - you got the love, kt!

  29. stormkite

Vid’s available; YouTube’s been doing maintenance tonight and it might have been down but it’s there now.

  30. scamps

Seeing Bill call out those anti-choicers was so go, it just has to be fattening!

  31. scamps

    *good

  32. Lindsay

Is there a video out on Obama’s NH response to the pro-lifers? I’d like to see it.

  33. I have a better quality video of the confrontation on my blog:

    http://aikenareaprogressive.blogspot.com/2008/02/big-thank-you-to-bill-clinton-for.html

  34. It’s about goddamn time a progressive politician called the pro-forced pregnancy brigade on their shit instead of conceding the “moral sincerity” of their position

Bill Clinton is a self-described Eisenhower Republican. Not a bad president, but hardly a progressive.

  35. Sheesh

I’m surprised this entry wasn’t somehow turned into yet another Hillary hit-piece.

  36. We’re not out to get Hillary Clinton. You’re projecting.

  37. Chico

So wait, reducing abortions is a good thing again? Weren’t they supposed to be a moral good?

  38. Chico, I realize that there were lots of big, scary words in that post, but did you bother to read it when you linked it? Or do we need to break it down into something a little closer to your reading level?

    This is Dick.

    This is Jane.

    They go to school together.

Dick and Jane like to fuck.

    Fuck, Dick, fuck!

This is Dick’s broken condom. What color is the condom? That’s right! It’s blue! What other things are blue?

This is Jane throwing up in the morning. Jane is very sick.

This is Jane going to the doctor and being told she’s pregnant.

Jane calls Dick. They talk. Dick comes over and they talk some more.

Jane likes school. If Jane stays pregnant, she won’t be able to stay in school. She’ll miss too many classes. She’ll be too tired to study. This makes Jane very sad. She wanted to be a doctor some day and look for cures for bad diseases.

Dick doesn’t have this problem. Dick isn’t sick. Dick isn’t tired. Dick tells Jane that he’ll still be her friend and fuck her no matter what.

Jane decides to go to the doctor again. The doctor will perform an abortion on Jane.

This is Jane paying the doctor for the abortion. It’s a lot of money for a college student, but a baby is a lot more money, so Jane pays the doctor now, before it’s a baby.

Dick picks up Jane from the doctor’s office.

“I’m glad I got the abortion,” says Jane. “It was a lot of money and not fun, but I’m glad I can still go to school. I’m glad that I can wait to have kids when I’m ready and can love them, and not hate them because they ruined my life.”

“I’m glad I still get to fuck Jane,” says Dick, and he takes her out to get ice cream. Dick and Jane are good friends.

    The End.

  39. DeadMan

“So wait, reducing abortions is a good thing again?”

Why wouldn’t it be? if less women need abortions because they have access to birth control then that’s one less dangerous medical operation they will need in the course of their lives. Less operations = less cost, less danger for women, everybody win, even the pro-lifers! (unless of course the pro life movent doesn’t really care about women’s health and only seek to control their sexuality … but we all know that’s not the case because pro-lifers are totally always giving out condoms everywhere they go … … … wait they don’t do that? oh … I wonder why???)

    DeadMan

  40. history_mom

So wait, reducing abortions is a good thing again? Weren’t they supposed to be a moral good?

Only a complete moron thinks that’s a gotcha. Y’know, I also promote good dental health and access to preventative dental care to reduce the incidence of root canals as a worthwhile goal, while simultaneously finding root canals to be a moral good, in that it is good to have it available to those who need it.

Same with abortion. The ideal is to reduce the need for abortion (an invasive medical procedure) through access to contraception and comprehensive sex education. But I also think abortion is a moral good for the women who will need to use this procedure. The fact is that there will always be a need for abortion.

Bill Clinton is a self-described Eisenhower Republican. Not a bad president, but hardly a progressive.

Compared to the other presidents we’ve had in the last 25 years, he is a progressive. And he is a progressive on certain issues. Is he far more moderate than I? Hell yes, but then so are the vast majority of Democratic politicians. But I’m willing to give credit where credit is due.

  41. Blue Jean

    Sheesh,

Here’s where to go for all things Hillary. (I’ve been hanging out there for a while.)

  42. Sheesh

“We’re not out to get Hillary Clinton. You’re projecting.”

I’m not necessarily saying you are. I’m saying that every time you hear anything about her lately it seems to be negative (and unfortunately, a lot of the time it’s perfectly justified).

  43. Blue Jean - Thanks for the The Hillary 1000 shout-out! (I’m the blogger there, with Donna Darko and Pocochina.)

  44. Blue Jean

Hey, great to see you over here, Red Star! You guys are everywhere! I love reading your blog every day.
