I’m glad that poverty and the carnage after Katrina down in the Gulf is all the fault of the residents who didn’t have the means to leave. Neal Boortz sets the record straight on the January 30 edition of Cox Radio Syndication’s The Neal Boortz Show. (Media Matters):
“Edwards’ campaign will end the way it began 13 months ago, with the candidate pitching in to rebuild lives in a city still ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. Edwards embraced New Orleans as a glaring symbol of what he described as a Washington that didn’t hear the cries of the downtrodden.” Cries of the downtrodden, my left butt cheek. That wasn’t the cries of the downtrodden; that’s the cries of the useless, the worthless. New Orleans was a welfare city, a city of parasites, a city of people who could not and had no desire to fend for themselves. You have a hurricane descending on them and they sit on their fat asses and wait for somebody else to come rescue them. It’s almost beyond words……When these Katrina so-called refugees were scattered about the country, it was just a glorified episode of putting out the garbage.
…The primary blame goes on the worthless parasites who lived in New Orleans who you — couldn’t even wipe themselves, let alone get out of the way of the water when that levee broke.

Wow. That’s just…so vile.
Is this guy’s name really Boortz? That just seems so appropriate: A combination of “boor” and the sound of an especially unpleasant fart.
So… poor people deserve to die.
Got it. Thanks, Neal.
I’m going to cut to the chase and get the Godwin violation out of the way:
Neal Boortz? The world you seem to want to live in is eerily reminiscent of a certain regime in Europe which was active during the middle of the last century. They had a phrase to describe those who needed to be dealt with because they were a “drain” on Society - “Lebensunwertes Leben“. Welcome to Fascism…
if they “could not” fend for themselves doesn’t that render whether or not they wanted to irrelevant?
And how idiotic is it to think they didn’t want to? As if laziness ever trumps survival instinct.
Boortz is the lazy one, too lazy to even bother putting a couple logical thoughts together.
I was amused to note on the email link that they declared that “positive messages only” would be read. God forbid he have to contend with people explaining to him how wrong he is - factually, logically, morally…
Soon enough Boortz will issue a statement saying he was “provocative” if you protest. Also he was checking if you were doing your homework: “Oh, just checking if you were following FEMA stories!”
I had a bit of respect for Boortz in my more innocent days as he said “Read the sotires for yourself,” but really, all he was providing a shortcut, much like Ayn Rand lackeys believe they can reason logically after reading one of her novels.
That’s interesting, Neal. Let’s talk about that for a few minutes, shall we?
Let’s accept for the sake of argument that there is a large segment of the human population that we need to classify as “garbage”. Okay.
So, Neal, you have just established that we, as a population, have a problem: the existence of this “garbage”.
The next obvious question for us, Neal, is this: What should we do to, for, with, or about this “garbage”?
Usually, the ideal thing one does with garbage in general is destroy it. Fire is the usual method of choice.
Tell me, Neal: Do you think we have to do anything differently merely because this garbage happens to be composed of human beings?
Just curious. Thanks for your time.
Agh…not “sotires” but “stories!”
How did Alan Greenspan put it? Ah, yes. “Parasites who persistently avoid either purpose or reason perish as they should.” Ayn Rand would be proud.
Even more vile is that thousands of Boortz’ listeners will congratulate him for being “courageous” enough to speak “the truth”.
I’ve got the feathers, honey, You got the tar?
Samurai Sam and grendelkahn: Sounds like we’re conjuring up the spirit of libertarian charity!
What about all those white folk in Metairie (spelling?) and the MS gulf coast? Things were so bad in that area that our local Sheriff’s office convoy headed to NoLa was faced with the extreme circumstances and simply stopped and started distributing aid and setting up shop there. I suppose Trent Lott and his constituents are also in this loser boat, too?
Hes still whining about welfare? What is this, 1991? I’m pretty sure Republican welfare “reform” got passed in twelve years ago.
Kate-
I hardly ever here about the more rural areas of the Gulf Coast from anybody.
Betty here sounds like she sure should deserved to be part of the final solution - I mean incomptenence/disregard of our government. Here’s just one Katrina victim’s obit:
Betty Giorlando Arceneaux, age 65, on Monday, August 29, 2005. Beloved wife of the late Douglas M. Arceneaux, Sr. Mother of Douglas M. Arceneaux, Jr. and his fiancee Renee. Grandmother of Devin. Daughter of Mary George and the late Weldon George. Sister of Sharon George-Ram and Grace G. Fogherty. Sister-in-law of Tom Fogherty. Aunt of Donna Yurt and her husband Joey and Linda Navo and her husband Jeff. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to Crasto Glass and Mirror Company, Inc. for their kind support. Mrs. Arceneaux was employed there for over 35 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in St. Bernard Parish. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Meraux, LA for the past 34 years. The relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Mass from Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home Chapel, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview, on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at 12:00 P.M. Noon. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. until time of service.
However, even if the obit read, “Welfare queen. Collected checks and ate King Dongs all day long except for when she was beating her kids from different fathers,” I thought all life was sacred. Not to mention the fact that if you had her background, you yourself would probably be hitting something harder than King Dongs. Oh, that’s right - all WHITE life is sacred. So silly of me.
This is really one of the most awful things I read. Honestly, hurricane Katrina marked one of those moments went I felt a huge moment of patriotism/national solidarity: it was a time when I saw “my people” (my fellow Americans) suffering and felt that something needed to be done to help my people when they were in need.
Dismissing the victims of Katrina as people who “got what they deserved” is truly horrible. Someone needs to tell Boortz that we’re not supposed to fend for ourselves. Neil Boortz, one of the “fellow Americans” of the residents of NOLA, is supposed to pitch in to help.
Who the heck does he think he is? Does he think his American citizenship is “special” whereby Americans in NOLA “don’t count”?
And, I should add, the Neal B.’s of this world never acknowlege that there are more white people on welfare in this country than black people.
There. Are. No. Words. Not in any language I know are there words to express how much this disturbs me.
It was bad enough when, opposing the minimum wage hike, he proclaimed anyone working for minimum wage and older then 20 a loser.
Because, of course, life is just like middle school and the most important thing we can do with our time is ridicule the losers.
But this… blatant classism like this just infuriates me, because, again, there but for the grace of God go I.
Jackasses like Boortz seem to suffer from the delusion that under no circumstances could they find themselves utterly down and out. I’m trying not to pray that they find out otherwise.
Could we sent a note to all first responders including tow truck operators that is Mr. Boortz is ever stuck anywhere that he is to be left and under no circumstances is anyone to help him because if he were not so lazy and could wipe himself, his tire would not have blown off, he would not get caught in a burning building, and would never get lost in the woods. The funny thing is, Neal would probably rush to the side of one of his conservative buddies who was in a motorcycle accident without a helmet without a thought about what a dumbbutt that person REALLY was to do something so dangerous.
And how axactly are you supposed to “fend for yourself” against a hurricane? With superpowers?
oops “exactly”
Let me guess - the guy’s dad was a Nazi and his mother an Afrikaaner? Other way around?
With a name like Boortz and a heart made of coal, it’s either Godwin or Apartheid that gets invoked.
“And how axactly are you supposed to “fend for yourself” against a hurricane?”
Boortz droolings sound a lot like bullshit I heard after the ‘04 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, when (some) people I worked with at the time were condemning the victims because they “didn’t get out of the way”. Yeah, right…
It’s fascinating (actually sickening) how there’s no questions raised when a poor, down-trodden bank or other huge financial institution needs help after foolishly going on a decade-long binge on cheap credit, racking up trillions in paper assets, which then disappear into the ether from whenst they came, and then collapses into what Atrios calls “Big Shitpile”.
But when some poor black people In NOLA can’t get out of the way of an “act of god” that hammers their homes, etc., the “moralists” all come out of the woodwork to condemn them for not actually dying in the hurricane and ridding society of their worthless hides.
This is when being an American is more of an embarrassment than anything else…
Sorry, Kate, I’m all out of tar.
However, I have a very rusty serrated razor-knife and a REALLY big bucket of sea salt.
Now, normally I believe in quick and painless extermination of vermin. However, in this case I’m fully prepared to reverse that position.
(And I covered Katrina. I know what happened there. He doesn’t.)
Is anyone else forcefully reminded of Sweeney Todd’s views of his customers?
Except, of course, that Sweeney’s a FICTIONAL CHARACTER.
Neal Boortz: the Cutest Little Fascist on Radio
(People who have been exposed to Mr. Boortz before may recognize the origins of that phrase . . .)
mmm, someone gets the ethnic cleansing trophy of the week.
Let us see how many hates we can find here
fat people-check
black people-check
poor people-check
unemployed poor people-double check
parasites (someone had a nasty experience with worms once)-check
wait, and dependents (such as children and elderly and pregnant women)- check
I really wish that the people in this country could somehow untangle themselves from the typical xtian prejudice of oh, how do they always put it? Idle hands are devil’s play? Sorry, it’s been too many years since I’ve been lectured by someone with a bible in their hand.
How is one supposed to get out of the way of the water once the levee is broken? One needs to anticipate a levee breech to get out of the way. Or does Neal think he can out run water?
And what about the people who attempted to cross the river and were turned back by the cops on the other side?
I remember an incident where some people would not or could not evacuate some buildings that had previously experienced a near catastrophe. I’m sure they all deserved to die for being so stupid as to work there, and of course we should mock their deaths and question their value as human beings.
But we aren’t Ann Coulter.
oh god. I lived in Lynchburg, VA (Liberty University, Jerry Falwell country) for 6 months and this guy was *all over* talk radio there. It was endless egging-on of the angry white man, I really felt afraid that guys who listened to a lot of it would be perfectly prepared to jump out of their cars and kill me. And I’m white! Just, you know, female and liberal. If you are angry enough to listen to someone like Neil Boortz regularly in the first place, by the end of his show you’d probably be ready to righteously run someone over. Relishing the gruesome deaths of black people in New Orleans probably goes over like balm of gilead for many of Boortz’s listeners.
What a despicable human being he is. Just gross.
Spike Jones and his Orchestra playing “Der Fuhrer’s Face” is marching through my head.
“Super-Duper Supermen!”…
:)
Yes. He also believes he can walk on water.
Asshole.
funny thing about the evolution of american racism: he can call them parisites, describe them as worthless, wish all kinds of horrible death on them and tell his listeners that they shouldn’t care-
but breathe the word “nigger” and he’d be out in an instant.
so weird.
Bootz is an asshole. He gets paid to be an asshole. That’s what he does for a living.
That’s ironic because Boortz can’t stand the religious right. (He’s libertarian, not conservative.)
I expect he only watched the Faux news version of Katrina. Not that that’s an excuse– it’s a way to be willfully ignorant.
I got decent coverage of the situation from a local station, and no one watching that could have avoided being proud of the young adults helping the elderly, sick, and children; the brave men facing the threat of authoritarian guns to try to get food and assistance for those dependent on them; the scavenger teams braving the waters again to reach places where water and other necessities might be found; the impromptu organizers who kept things amazingly orderly among large groups abandoned by “emergency services”.
I’d like him to meet Chris Rose in a dark alley. (And everyone should read Rose’s essays about Katrin, One Dead in Attic.” Or maybe Boortz should be forced to live in one of those gutted houses in St. Bernard’s Parish.
I just watched Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations last night as he toured New Orleans and it was depressing how so many houses sit empty or were turned into empty fields. Boortz is a fucker.
No limit to how pissed off this could make me, if I didn’t know that it would bring Neil Boortz satisfaction.
The guy needs a “controversy” once per ten (10) months to keep his dying show on the road.
“The guy needs a “controversy” once per ten (10) months to keep his dying show on the road.”
I’ll buy that he’s primarily looking for press, but I really do think his statements expose the actual attitudes of a whole lot of people in this country.
And plenty of those people are just looking for an excuse to say out loud what they were already thinking.
Come to think of it, the Rethug party seems to exist in large part to help satisfy this “need”…
Even more tragic is that he graduated from Texas A&M University with public money covering most of his tuition. If he were a real libertarian he’d write a check out to the state to pay it back for supporting his sorry ass when he couldn’t afford private schooling.
More like the Rethug Party exists to serve global business interests and prosecute an aggressive interventionist foreign policy that further secures said interests (what’s a few dead babies), while demagogue talk-radio and Christian-right tools funnel them the votes of the angry and the stupid … you know, those disenfranchised white Christians. Why, they can’t even speak the truth anymore thanks to the omnipresent PC police, thank God Neil Boortz has the courage to say “nigger” for them! (or come close)
Same difference, I guess. As Hunter S. Thompson was fond of saying, How much longer, O Lord, how much longer?
I’m in Houston, the city that poured its heart out for Katrina victims and has become the new home for many thousands of them. A few people said crap like this back then and we mostly told them STFU and kept on doing what what we could to help.
Plus only a month later we learned just how hard an evacuation could be when Rita was on the way. Many rich folks from the manditory evacuation zones had to turn back because the roads were too crowded and in some cases deadly.
If he were a real libertarian he’d write a check out to the state to pay it back for supporting his sorry ass when he couldn’t afford private schooling.
If he were a real libertarian, he wouldn’t have taken government money in the first place.
As a Katrina survivor I think the statement is over the top. The fact that we are commenting on it means he has achieved what he had intending - not to be ignored.
BBBBOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTZZZZZZ!!
The sound that is made by your arse, expelling foul and troublesome gas!
KL,
Boortz never graduated from Texas A&M, he told everyone he had until he was outed in Sept of ‘05, and for lying about his status in the Draft during the Vietnam War!
Google: Boortz- John Sugg, Texas A&M, Selective Service
