“John McCain and his friends used to beat up Mitt Romney at recess,” Mr. Schnur said.

Thank you for condescending to me. I also understand bowling metaphors.

Well, here's a slightly OT though somewhat related announcement, dear Pandagonians:

Due to a long series of unfortunate events, which in the end merely drew my attention to how unsustainable my life has been these past 3 years, I'm moving to the one place in the world I can live without paying rent (or anyway probably not too much of it): my parents' home in Sparks, Nevada.

The relevant part is this: I'll be here in California for the primary early next month (just a couple weeks from now, in fact) and will vote for either Edwards if he is still in the running or Obama otherwise. Nevada already had its caucuses. So my next vote after that will be in November, when I expect to still be in Nevada.

And so I personally hope that Romney wouldn't be the R nominee at that point, because I figure no amount of campaigning for any Democrat would put them over the top against Mormon "favorite son" Romney in that highly LDS state.

But of course what I want is for the R to lose, whoever that may be, and if Romney is really the surest to lose overall, so be it.

However I'm not convinced that any Republican, no matter how plainly foolish, unprincipled, ugly, or criminal, is guaranteed to lose. Not at any rate if we assume there will be some unchecked shenanigans, as I imagine there surely will be.

Anyway I hope that in the long run a guy like me can do more good in a place like northern Nevada than around here on the Granola Coast, where I am pretty much a third wheel.

Fellow UU people, y'all know the hymn "We'll Build a Land," right?

It was running through my head about 2 weeks ago, as I was contemplating and making my peace with this relocation plan of mine. Which is a sure thing now that my landlord has found a new tenant for March.

Not sure people like me can swing Nevada no matter who the lineup is or how hard we work at it. But don't count out Nevada Dems and progressives; I found a surprisingly high level of sympathy for the Kerry campaign in Nov '04 when I went there to help it, and I also found Diebold machines counting the votes.

Well, it's just one percent of the vote anyway. I never see any percentage in trying to influence the Republican vote; if Dems cannot convey that they stand for something different and better across the board, then there is no particular reason to expect their victories to make much difference. I've always been convinced that even the worst Dems (who can be pretty godawful) are an improvement over their Republican rivals, at least during my lifetime. And at the end of the day I think most Americans at least see a difference though obviously they don't always agree as to its direction.

On a similar note (since this is the closest recent thread to the topic,) what do you all think about Kucinich dropping?

Of course he never had a chance, but he's seen as an ideal candidate on paper by many on here, kos, etc. I've got mixed feelings; I've heard a lot (I wasn't born yet) about his mismanagement of Cleveland as mayor, coming from liberals and moderates as well as conservatives. He's been a good representative on the national level in terms of the war, but not so much in specifically the needs of Cleveland.

Kristen; That is a great analogy! I remember the series for Jane Badler as the gorgeous alien leader Diana and Robert Englund in a much nicer role than those he normally plays. Oh yeah, and Michael Ironside as a crazy right-wing resistance fighter.

Living so close to Cambridge, any time I'm on Harvard campus I find myself wondering how many of these bright students are future Republican dickheads.

What I have to do is make sure that my anger with a guy like Romney, whose teeth I want to knock out, doesn’t get in the way of my thought process.

I'm in the middle of JR Ward's fantastic Black Dagger Brotherhood vampire series. This guy sounds just like one of the mafiosi vamps.

More of those fucking useless and idiotic schoolyard analogies? Is there any way we could get a moratorium on that shit for the duration?

Indeed. Most of us move beyond the "my dad can beat up your dad" thing well before we reach voting age.
