Frederick of Hollywood will need to get Dick Wolf on speed dial to see if he can find work on L&O. His job there has already been taken over by Sam Waterston. Watch for him to endorse McCain. (AP):
Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson quit the Republican presidential race on Tuesday, after a string of poor finishes in early primary and caucus states.Freepers are probably beside themselves. Let’s take a look…“Today, I have withdrawn my candidacy for president of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort,” Thompson said in a statement.
Thompson’s fate was sealed last Saturday in the South Carolina primary, when he finished third in a state that he had said he needed to win.
Fly the Freeper flag at half mast in mourning. He is a good man but alas ran not a good enough campaign. Not sure why the sizzle fizzled in the early states. It’s down to Mitt Romney v John McCain now.
Proamnesty-antiBushtaxcuts-proCO2caps-CFR-RINO John McCain delenda est!
Ergo, Vote Mitt Romney.
Fly the Freeper flag at half mast in mourning. He is a good man but alas ran not a good enough campaign. Not sure why the sizzle fizzled in the early states.
I am disgusted with and disappointed in Thompson. And sad for the Republican party. Bad, sad news, this.
Well “republicans” you had your chance, and ya’ll f****d it off. Final advice? Get rifles and ammo while you can cause after getting the illegal aliens amnestied they will be finding ways to disarm everyone no matter what the Supreme Court decides. Good Luck.
This country has no conservative candidate and my vote is now a stay home. This country is doomed.
O.K. Fred-heads, both Hunter and Thompson are now out….What now????????????????????????????????
Well, pass me my tin foil hat, but I won’t believe this until I hear the words coming out of FRed’s mouth for myself! There’s nothing on his website concerning this—wouldn’t he tell his supporters FIRST?? I smell a ‘rat. >:-(
Sorry to hear that, just when Fred was beginning to catch on. I am so sooooooorrrrrrrrrry , I know how much all you Fredheads felt about Fred. Just remember this election is not about Fred, it is about finding the best one to go against the Hildabeast.. now is the time to rally.
This is so sad. I’m afraid I’ve just witnessed the death of the Reagan Coalition. Hello President Hillary
Prayers for Fred and his family and for this nation.
Yes, more idiocy from the vaunted GOP base, McCain and Huck????????
This comes as no surprise and next he will be endorsing Mccain
Well, that makes my decision easier. I was hoping to see a conservative win the nomination, but there are none left in the race. I will cast my absentee vote for Fred anyway, and then sit out the presidential race in November. Now, since I live in a reliably blue stae, my decision to not cast a vote for president will have no impact on the race. However, in the past several elections, I have donated and volunteered my time in the effort to elect the party nominee. This year, I will be keeping my checkbook closed, and I will find more worthy causes to which to devote my time.
Unfortunately, I saw it on his site with my own eyes. I didn’t want to believe it either

I’m not sure what to do next.
I am in tears here. What will happen to my country now?! :*( From FRed’s website: Statement from Sen. Fred Thompson McLean, VA - Senator Fred Thompson today issued the following statement about his campaign for President: “Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people.”
Who does Rush want me to vote for now? I am a complete Ditto Head.
It’s clear that the liberal commie media is in full control. They ran off Tancredo, Hunter, now Thompson. They are trying to run off Mitt too. They want McCain. Fred’s a good guy. I hope we see him on L&O again. I never watched it before, but I might tune in to see him now.

As the song goes, “Freddy’s Dead”.
.
I was about to cut and paste this, but I just got my first of no doubt MANY phone calls from a boiler room, trying to solicit my oh-so-valuable Independent vote.
OMFG, I do hate this aspect of keeping my political cards to MYSELF…
Man oh man I wish there was a liberal commie media around here somewhere.
I’m curious why liberal commies would want it to be McCain. Maybe cause he’s the Manchurian candidate? I’m glad I’m not inside a freeper’s head, it would be scary in there.

With any luck, Rudy will be next; stories like this sure aren’t gonna help him.
I’m baffled by how anybody, however conservative, can cry over this guy leaving. What did he bring to the party? He seems to be a simple blank slate on which Freepers and their ideological kin can project whatever they want.
Sloth?
I think this is the single most pathetic arrangement of two sentences that I’ve read in the past decade.
Joy, that might be a sarcastic comment by a non-Freeper.
Thompson simply didn’t campaign very hard. He was pretty much running on Tweety’s “smells like English Leather” and familiarity from L&O.
I suspect that he would have made a far better president than any of the other GOP candidates, though.
A doorknob would probably make a far better president than any of the other GOP candidates (except maybe Rudy) so that’s not saying much.
“Who does Rush want me to vote for now? I am a complete Ditto Head.”
::BARF::
Man, it’s COMPLETELY impossible to satirize these guys. (And twenty bucks says 97% of fr**perland is guys.)
OK, yeah, that probably was a troll baiting the freepers– it’s “too” stupid, if that makes any sense in this context.
No doubt he’s quitting so he can go home and “spend more time with the twins“.
“I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort”
Um.
Effort?
Bitter Scribe,
He seemed, at least, more committed to the Constitution (from a Conservative point of view) and federalism than the other republicans.
In addition to being the only one of the mainstream candidates who seemed like he truly supported the 2nd amendment, he seemed genuinely worried about the expansion of Federal powers in a way that someone like Mitt “Double Guantanamo” Romney, Rudy “torture everybody” Giuliani, and Mike Huckabee certainly don’t. He voted against a lot of things in the Senate (like tort reform) that he was sympathetic to because in his opinion the Constitution simply didn’t allow Congress that power.
We could argue all day as to whether certain right-wing interpretations of the Constitution are correct, and we all know that Federalism’s been used as a pretext for tolerating some nasty (and unlawful) things, but I at least was encouraged by a serious candidate’s commitment to be bound by the constitutional limits to his powers, however flawed his understanding of those limits — to put the survival of that important guarantor of our liberty above his own partisan agenda.
So unless a politician verbally admits something a freeper doesn’t want to hear, it never happened. Kinda like the torture - I mean “harsh interrogation technique” stuff.
I understand now.
