I realized that I’ve been posting a lot of videos throughout the year, but I’ve neglected to put up anything from The Go! Team’s new album, Proof of Youth, which is one of the best of 2007 in my occasionally-but-rarely humble opinion. I shall remedy that now.

They’re really a genuine 21st century band. I defy you to come up with an easy categorization for their music. I say “hip hop”, because nothing else comes quite close enough to describe the way they combine an entire catalog of sounds.

The video art reminds me so much of the seventies of my youth its killing me. I love it!

I love the horns and the in-your-face sound and lyrics that ride on a retro underpinning but is definitely now. Id’ buy this.

Those videos are awesome, though in my humble opinion Proof of Youth wasn’t quite as good as Thunder, Lightning, Strike. The former is a fantastic album, don’t get me wrong, but the latter is one of my favorite albums of all time. By the way, have you seen The Go! Team live? They put on some of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

I’ve also had trouble trying to categorize them when trying to explain them to friends. Hip-hop makes sense after you’ve heard them but I think it would give someone who hasn’t completely the wrong idea.

  6. I LOVE THE GO! TEAM!!

I think the albums are different flavors, but I think they rock just a bit more on the 2nd album

  7. Happy new Year, Pandagon!

And thank you, I know what I’m going to spend my iTunes gift certificate on now. :D Hip-hop Remix Psychadelic Funk!

Jesus, sorry about posting that about a million times. Having issues today apparently.

  9. 2007 was a big year for you, Amanda. Here’s to a great 2008!

That first vid…It’s catchy as hell.

Fishbone meets Bananarama meets something or other. Or maybe not.

What the fuck do I know? I just like it.

They’ve been one of my favourite current bands since I first heard them. Hard to classify, like almost all the contemporary music I like. I thought of them as just straight indie pop, but I deliberately don’t keep up with current classification systems, as I find them mostly rather silly. They’re just awesome is all that’s needed.

  12. I’ve always described them as “80s TV show theme song music”.

  13. Why is hip-hop/mix of style a sign of 21st century? isn’t that a bit 80’s? Or, the act of mixing styles is as old as popular music itself. so…

I would vote the sound of 07 is “Burial” … (k. maybe not)

Good to see some other Go! Team fans here.

I have seen the Go! Team live. Twice. Jon’s right; they put on a really good live show.

  15. idiosynchronic, The UnHip Carbonated Beverage

I kept expecting Cookie Monster or other Sesame Street icons to pop up in the videos.

First song - eh. Second - pretty good.

I say we should blow kisses and alms to mcc. That was a great video, thanks for posting it.

And it just reinforced that I looooove the horns.

Go! Team are pretty fun, though I like the first full length better.

Do you like Stereo Total? They totally remind me of them.

  18. FlipYrWhig

Was that the band from The Electric Company?

  19. Peaches

Aww hell yeah, I love The Go! Team! Fell in love with their first album, and absolutely adore the second. It’s a bit different from their first, but they still keep true to their sound. Plus Ninja the rapper is bad-ass! We need more females to rock/rap out loud.
