How can he be so sure his mom isn’t that type of girl?

Because if his mom enjoyed sex, then he may not be the son of God he always thought he was. (Seriously, if one thinks of one's parents as asexual, one can conclude that one's conception was a sacrifice made by one's parents out of love for their future child, and never merely an afterthought.)

So, persuasion is coercion.

I'm not sure that, in this context, the distinction has much of a difference; how can one fetishize "persuasion" and not coercion? Making it about "the chase," about making the transition from unwilling to willing, means it's not really about the partner. I suppose at its best, one can distinguish between attitudes of "she's willing to do something she doesn't enjoy for me; that must mean she really loves me!" and "I got one over on her." But they're both objectifying, narcissistic attitudes.
Maybe some folks who claim to enjoy "persuasion" feel that what they enjoy is broadening other folks' horizons, but I still find this a bit creepy if they can't enjoy the act with someone whose horizon doesn't need broadening. It's a virgin fetish.

"Man, seeing that Courtney Love/Hole video again makes me realize: is there anyone out there at all who DOESN”T think this song was written by Kurt? Sheesh, it’s practically a Nirvana cover…"

Errr. The supposed Svengali at this point was Billy Corgan (Kurt being unavailable) and this sounds a lot more like Pumpkins than Nirvana to me. I can't think of a Nirvana song that had guitar as precise-sounding as this one.

Whichever, I kinda like the song. For the mid-to-late 90s it stacks up okay against the Seven Mary Threes,* Tonics and Veruca Salts of the world.

*Except their album that had no hits that I actually liked.

One might suggest that the man in question should accept his own sexual desires rather than loathing them… but that’s just crazy talk, right?

Easier said than done, grendelkhan.

If one feels that society will be disgusted by what they do or want to do, if they grow up hearing people express disgust or contempt for people who engage in certain acts, it seems inevitable that they will loathe themselves if it turns out that they have a desire to engage in said acts. I speak from experience.

Also, sorry for the double post earlier. "Say Yeah" is one of the best Motley songs that you've likely never heard and can be found on the collections "Supersonic and Demonic Relics" and "Music to Crash Your Car to: Vol. 2". (I find it kind of surprising that they'd use that album title, given that Vince Neil was in a car crash that took the life of his friend, but whatever.) Or you can download it, like I did. :)

MikeEss: A guy at work introduced me to Dragonforce. He did this in a mocking way because the stuff is so ’80’s hair metal. (He also introduced me to Lordi at the same time…)

Now I don’t know if I should embrace him as a friend with a good sense of humor, or reject him as a former friend who didn’t respect the limits of human endurance…
Hmm. I can't tell if that means that you do or don't like Dragonforce. I am, however, fully aware of how ridiculous they are. This does not stop them from being awesome.

"Eh, I like Teenage Wasteland a lot better."

...not to be an old fart, but the actual name of the song is Baba O'Riley...

I don't use the Stratocaster that came with the game, but the Gibsons from III, and they work just great. Plus, with two wireless guitars, we don't need the funky plug-in to play all 4 instruments at once.

Eh, I like Teenage Wasteland a lot better.

I've heard that the drum heads on the Rockband drums aren't as durable as the company expected and they're already having to do replacements. Also some people are having issues with the Stratocaster controller, and the company is working furiously on getting the 360 to recognize all the Guitar Hero III controllers. No word yet for the PS3 people.

They did that show at Live 8 without their regular rhythm section and it sounds a bit off. Compare it to this years show at Glastonbury. With Pino Palladino and Zak Starkey they're back to being one of the best live shows anywhere. Just insanely tight and powerful performances. This version of Who Are You puts the burned out Moon studio version to shame.
