My wife Kate's a native of Alabama, so I always give her grief when stories like this come up — Members of one Klan group plan to protest another in Cullman. She actually has relatives that live in this town; I've heard hair-raising tales about the racism and organized Klan activity there.
Let's start from the beginning — a national branch of the Klan has secured a permit to hold a protest against illegal immigrants at the Cullman County Courthouse. (Cullman Times):
Dan Quinn, Grand Dragon of the Realm of Alabama for the Church of the National Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Inc., wrote to Mayor Don Green and the council asking for permission to hold the rally Nov. 10.However, another branch of the KKK will have none of this. Its leadership thinks that the other Klan faction is uncouth and un-Christian. Try reading this without laughing.Quinn said the reason for the group’s meeting would be to speak “out against the invasion of our beautiful state by the illegal immigrants and their impact on our societies.”
Members of one Ku Klux Klan organization say they will assemble at the courthouse Nov. 10 to show their opposition to another Klan group that plans an anti-immigration rally there that day.Ken Mier, who described himself as an investigator for the Alabama Ku Klux Klan and the national office of the Ku Klux Klan LLC, said in an e-mail to The Cullman Times that his group is against the tactics of the National Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, which held an anti-immigration protest last month in Athens.
"We are opposed to the ignorance and stupidity as displayed by the individuals that thumbed their nose at the area churches by continuing to use racial slurs, threats and avoided Christian deportment," he said.

Looks like the Republican Party is the last organization that’s truly safe for racism in America.
God forbid that the Grand Dragon of the Realm of Alabama sully the Klan’s good name by using racial slurs!
Splitters!
Because when you mention the phrase “Christian comportment,” the Ku Klux Klan immediately springs to mind.
Deportment.
Wait– was that supposed to be a joke?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say there’s probably something else going on here.
I can’t even begin to imagine what would cause one Klan member to complain about another using racial slurs.
I’m not sure, but it could have something to do with the large turnout of local church-led opposition during the rally in Athens.
I’m… so confused…
“Daddy, what are those two women doing on the right?”
The sound you just heard was my head exploding. Someone has to explain why the KKK is complaining about racial slurs.
…after hearing of this, a spokesperson for the local illegal immigrant community said–”Thanks?”
Talk about the pot, calling the other pot–well, probably not black, and probably not a racial slur, either…
Maybe the cognitive dissonance will make some of their heads explode.
Gosh, I hope the KKK vs. the KKK vs. immigration rally doesn’t take a violent turn! It would be such a shame if we had KKK-on-KKK violence. I mean, what sort of a society are we if hate groups can hate other hate groups?
All this means is that they will help older black folks across the street IF someone from a church is watching. If no one is watching, they’ll throw them under the bus…
Kinda like the surrent crop of ‘democrat’ leaders. They don’t suck as bad as the republicans, but they still suck…
Or like a hooker calling another woman a slut?
Whaaaaa??? W00T!
Essentially, one group is the Klan as we know them, and the other one is a branch of the local republican party. Sure, they don’t use the N-word, but they know who is and who is not allowed to get get gov’ment cheese and hold office.
Ken Meir should know that no amount of faux civility is going to fool anyone as long as his business cards say KKK. If he’s really not willing to burn some crosses and throw a few n-bombs around, then he’s probably better off dissolving his little group and reforming under some combination of the words family, american, christian, life, values, and/or citizens, where he can play the game in a more gentlemanly manner.
Re: the last part:
In the words of Socrates, “Wait, what?”
Wild guess as to why this happened:
The person who said not to use racial slurs against Mexicans is a tiny bit (perhaps an eighth or so) Mexican himself.
I think it makes sense, given how many secretly gay Republican anti-gay activists there are.
Either that or the KKK is trying to change its image.
As the Sun-Times said today “Things that aren’t quite what they used to be…”
I guess “Christian Deportment” means not shouting the n-word in a crowded theater. As long as you look civilized in public, you have “Christian Deportment”, but when you hide yourself in a closet to pray, you can hate all you want.
They are evil assholes, whereas we are just evil.
I’ve actually been doing alot of reading lately on the resurfacing and mainstreaming of the white supremecey movement in America. Pretty interesting reading I have to say. And though it might suprise alot of people, this is actually one of the bigger topics of in-fighting.
There’s a growing section of white power groups that are trying to distance themselves from their violent history. They don’t use racial slurs, they don’t burn crosses on people’s lawns, they say they don’t advocate hate, they speak out against other white supremecy groups that do do those things, etc. Nobody except the KKK, takes the KKK seriously. Your regular average joe racist thinks the KKK is bad. Just like how kids who dress up in blackface for halloween, or people who hang “joke” nooses don’t see themselves as racist because they’re not wearing white robes. These new white power groups realize that these negative associations of violence and hatred are impacting their relevance in the public sphere and are also impacting their recruitment.
So basicly, because of a bizarre PR campaign, there’s been a factioning off of the white power groups that want to go more mainstream and the ones that still want to be able to scream “N*****!” from the roof tops.
Little Bird:
Makes sense. Part of the KKK is trying to turn itself into the CCC. Just as racist, but you have a chance of getting your message sent by Lou Dobbs, or getting elected.
