  1. The circle has one less jerk.

  2. It ain’t Fitzmas, but worth a beer before lunch.

Now what sort of banal, tepid but utterly evil minion will we have to endure in Gonzo’s place?

  3. Ack - the next banal evil: current Homeland Security Sect’y Chertoff to become the next Atty General.

  4. I will admit that the timing surprises me. I assumed he would linger on long enough to continue to “hold the line” against any real legal investigation into the multitudinous Bushco illegalities.

Of course who knows what rough beast slouches towards Washington to be confirmed. From the sounds of it - it will be Chertoff.

  5. I think Gonzales just wanted to spend more time with his family.

  6. Am I the only person who’s really surprised? Happy of course! but still really surprised…

  7. I am happy that he is resigning.

  8. I’m happy too, but I think the real test is if Congress holds strong against confirming another Bush zealot. Gonzales resigning is an incomplete victory at best. Stil, woot.

  9. About time.

  10. AG is no longer the AG!!! :)

  11. Maybe that Spanish judge who indicted Pinochet can start working on papers for AG…don’t travel abroad Abu Gonzalez; you might just be arrested as an international human rights violator.

It’s difficult to celebrate when you know they aren’t going to nominate anyone competent or with integrity to replace him. Seriously; Skeletor from Homeland Security? Talk about failing upward.

  13. I saw a cool bumper sticker last weekend. It said, “Republicans for Voldemort.” I loved it. (Reminiscence clearly inspired by the Skeletor reference above.)

  14. I’ve been reading that Congress might have no say on AG until Bush is out of office.

Whoever is appointed interim AG now could conceivably remain in until the *end* of the next Congressional session, in 2009, because the president has that long to decide to appoint someone else permanently.

Bush’s soundbite that aired this morning with my wakeup alarm was committed the cardinal sin of inducing rage before coffee.

Yeah, the guy sucks, but will the next one be any better?

And will the senate stand up against him? Yeah, just like they stood up on the war and the wiretapping.

And the real villains are still there, no matter who he appoints or doesn’t appoint, and congress won’t stand up to them, so who cares who is (not) enforcing the law on their behalf?
