Haven’t looked at the referral page in awhile:
4 Google: “italian cock sucker” 1 /2006/06/15/snitchens-rhapsodizes-on-his 7:10
Yup, it’s working like a charm.
Update: Consider this an open thread for centralizing comments about layout, readability, plug-ins (to which the answer is probably no), etc.

And by “test”, I mean me.
Well, I don’t know what a plug-in is, so fine with me if you don’t have them. Just suggestions, not meant to sound like they’re being delivered in a complainy or demanding voice–I miss the preview below the typing field (or whatever this thing is called). And whatever it’s called, it seems to be a little smaller. I like the numbered comments, but a little more space between comments might be good. Somehow, and I’m not sure what it is, the new look seems or feels a little cramped.
Bottom line–I’m not going to stop reading, so if these things are for the sake of saving money, fine by me.
I don’t have a Blogsome account, and I’m guessing my old account didn’t transfer. Is there a way to create new accounts so I don’t have to type my information in every time?
Thanks!
Also, is there anything that can be done so you only have to verify once? I’m finding the verification code extremely hard to read, and there’s no audio option.
Well, one example of a plug-in would be like those prev–
Whoops.
Anyway, there’s supposedly some ways in which Ajax (the thing responsible for the preview) interacts with Blogsome, but we’ll have to look into it.
I tried to adjust the comments, both box and spacing, but if others agree that more is needed (of either) that can be adjusted, certainly.
Registration is now open and I think it works the way it’s supposed to.
For future reference you can do it by clicking on “Site Admin” in the upper right corner.
As for the captcha, there’s currently no way to deactivate it. We’re exploring the situation.
I get all red faced and stompy when I can’t click on the logo at the top and have it take me to the main page.
And my comment box overlaps the blogads on the right. Underlaps would describe how it looks, but I can type right over Fauntroy with no problem.
Any chance that we’ll see the active threads list again?
Best of luck, y’all.
If you guys have already registered the domain name “pandagon.net,” can’t you simply make that URL load this page instead of redirecting here? Also, the ads cover part of the comment type box, making it difficult to comment.
The ads are overlaying the box for me as well. Preview would be nice if it can be brought back.
Are the archives being brought over? I ask mainly ‘cuz I’ve had Chris Clarke’s “Simple HTML Instructions” lbookmarked and linked for some time now. I link to it at other sites for other html challeneged folks like me.
Thanks!
Maronan, I assume they need a redirect while waiting for DNS to propagate.
Briefly (for those to whom that sentence didn’t make sense), when you request “pandagon.net,” your machine asks a local directory service for the numerical address of the machine that hosts that domain. Depending on the settings of that directory service, it may keep the old address on file for several hours or days. In that case, you’ll still get pages from the old server. So the redirect is on the old machine to deal with that lag time.
Eventually, the local listing will expire, and your directory will have to go back to the source (Dotster, the registrar of pandagon.net) and get an updated address. Over time, everybody’s local directory gets updated.
Okay, time for my own complaints.
1. If you have to be logged in to comment (which is the message I received), it would be nice to note that fact prominently on the “Leave a comment” form, and even better not to display the form to someone who isn’t logged in.
2. On that note, the login link needs to be more prominent. In the top bar, it’s too far from the comment form, and the text (”Site Admin”) doesn’t imply to the ordinary commenter that it’s where they login.
3. If you have to use captcha, use in-form captcha.
And a nitpicky bitch from a bitchy old crank: comment preview doesn’t technically rely on Ajax, because it’s not communicating with a remote server. I understand that this particular script probably is employing something in the Ajax library, which just reinforces my crankiness about the whole subject. grumble grumble Web two point oh grumble grumble
For people with the ads overlaying the text: Are you in Internet Explorer?
I have ads overlaying the text in Safari.
I do not have ads overlaying text in Firefox.
Also, readers should note that if they receive your blog in an RSS feed reader, then your feed addy has changed. They’ll need to update to the new feed addy in your to continue to read your words of wisdom and smarmyness.
I do have ads overlaying the form in Firefox, 2.0.0.4, Mac OS X.4.
The comment form is outside of the comments div, but the stylesheet declaration that sets the width of the textarea is expecting the form to be inside div.comments.
Somehow the redirect automagically propogated so the new site showed up on the old LiveJournal feed, so this is totally seamless. Other than the fact that I don’t see a capcha, so I don’t know if this will post.
Cris is probably correct. I’m running the NoScript extension on Firefox, 2.0.0.5, Windoze XP. NoScript is blocking blogads and assoc-amazon.
Much less tech-speak here: Where’s the blogroll? Has that been trashed in the server move?
I for one embrace our Blogsome overlords…
I’ll go with Cris. I don’t get the blogad/comment box problem in Firefox on my work PC, but I did get it with Firefox on my mac at home.
And I like the idea of promoteizing the log in and having the in form captcha.
I registered, but I still get asked for the “secret” numbers to make a comment.
Bug or feature?
If feature, what’s the point of registering?…
Hm, the new system is odd. Now that I’ve set up an account with the site admin feature I don’t see the captcha anymore, but I still have to enter my name and email address. Wahhh, change scary!
Working now?…
I like the numbered comments, but I think they might be a shade too close to the left green border, particularly as they reach double-digits. From the looks of it now, if a comment thread reaches triple-digits, then there might be some overlap. And yes, I do realize that is pretty über-nitpicky thing to say!
And on an mega-super-über-nitpicky note, the last letter in the “URL” space in the comment box should maybe be capitalized. Right now it looks like a capital I.
That’s because it is a capital I, as in Uniform Resource Indicator.
Late last night - no comment without login - retrying
hmmm - no comment w/o login?
I will now hang my head in shame. Off to the pillory with me!
my only problem besides that i keep getting redirected off of pandagon to some ad page, would be that IE keeps temporarily not responding and then i get a little pop up box that says some script running on the page is making IE run slow and may cause everything to freeze.
i can handle these quirks tho, as up until a year ago i was on 56k dialup on a ten year old packard bell. im pretty patient.
I have a suggestion.
Can the really cool feminist blogs stagger their server switches, it leaves me with nothing to read!!
Seriously, Feministe has been down for two days, anyone know why?
I likes the numbers.
I don’t like that there are no longer links to the previous and following blog entries on individual entries - that made it easy to go from page to page while catching up on a few days’ worth of missed posts.
Also, is a registration required?
Whatever you’re doing with the underlined words isn’t working.
I hoover the mouse over those words, and my computer starts to whine and an ad page is loading. (That ad page seems to be loading all the time, though.)
I’d appreciate the “more….” links being a little larger/more prominent somehow–I’m used to being able to tell long before I get there if I’m going to have to click over to another page…
My security program thinks Pandagon is a dangerous web site because of a spyware program called ‘adbrite’?
I keep getting a message of a script making my pc run slowly….
Also, registered, logged in, still need to enter name and e-mail. Sigh.
At home things lay out fine in FF. At work where I do not have privs to install even an update to a browser, the old ff I am runing lays out your pages in the crappiest way. the dark green bgcolor remains under the text in vast stretches of the page and it is just unreadable. actually looks better in IE.
If one registers with blogsome, receives a password and, thus identified, enters a comment and hits the ol’ blaspheme button and nothing appears is that because one is stupid, born under a bad sign or the DB that handles identities is a shoebox of 3x5 cards on a desk in Austin?
I’ll come back in a week. There are so many odd things here, most of which you must already know about, that it would be a waste of time telling you. I’ll let the dust settle and see if the site is still here.
adbrite is an advertising company. The company itself is sometimes falsely noted as spyware. It leaves a cookie on your PC. However, the company does serve up ads for other companies which are peddling spyware as well as adult sites.
NoScript in Firefox blocks adbrite, but allows Pandagon.
My recommendation: if possible, Pandagon should consider dumping adbrite.
Will there be archives? I totally missed everything that happened between Tuesday morning and whatever shows up when it loads now. (Which is very buggy, because there is some script that wants to run that my browser (gotta use Exploder; it’s a workplace system) says is slowing down everything, so I kill it. Now the post I wanted to put a late comment on doesn’t show at all.
I see that sometimes you can link to an old site post and it shows, or one can search with a keyword on the archives page–but there are no consecutive archives I can find.
Also I registered, but trying to sign in to a particular post takes me to the main page afterward, with all the problems, and the post I wanted disappeared.
Maybe tomorrow when I just sign in when I first load the main page (that is, after loading, waiting, killing the script, then logging in and doing it all again) the posts will have me logged in already?
Anyway if this works then I’ll see that logging in would not be necessary. (But I will if it works, because I think that would be polite.)
Cool, that worked!
Hey, what’s the story on why the migration anyway?
Just give me a link to the appropriate post if there was one, please!
