Tee hee — that’s the AP headline. The fundies are mad at the Mittster for not doing anything about Marriott Hotels offering in-room porn to its customers when he was on its board. (KUTV):
Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney, who rails against the “cesspool” of pornography, is being criticized by social conservatives who argue that he should have tried to halt hardcore hotel movie offerings during his near-decade on the Marriott board.Burress, you might recall, also owns the web site CleanHotels.com, a listing service to alert travelers where there is no availability to order such pay-for-play content. Pay per view porn generates up to $500 million for the hotel industry, so it’s not going away.…”Marriott is a major pornographer. And even though he may have fought it, everyone on that board is a hypocrite for presenting themselves as family values when their hotels offer 70 different types of hardcore pornography,” said Phil Burress, president of Citizens for Community Values, an anti-pornography group based on Ohio.
…Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, a leading conservative group in Washington, said: “They have to assume some responsibility. It’s their hotels, it’s their television sets.”
Never mind that a ChristiaNet poll last year found 50% of all Christian men and 20% of all Christian women are addicted to pornography. One assumes some of them are ordering up porn when they are on the road.
Romney brushes aside the criticism, apparently giving porn the thumbs up for adults — he’s just concerned about kids.
Romney said his current concern is not about pornography per se, but children unwittingly stumbling upon it on the Internet or television.Well, I hate to tell him, but that answer isn’t going to appease the bible beaters, who don’t want any eyes on fornication on the idiot box.“I am not pursuing an effort to try and stop adults from being able to acquire or see things that I find objectionable; that’s their right. But I do vehemently oppose practices or business procedures that will allow kids to be exposed to obscenity,” the former Massachusetts governor said.

And WHAT’S the DEAL with the TINY CUPS they give you for orange juice at the so-called continental breakfast?
It keeps getting better. Rudy won’t satisfy the wingnuts, everyone hates McCain, and one thing after another comes out about Romney.
Things keep looking worse for the Republicans.
Of course, if anyone can miss a “three foot putt” in a Presidential election, it’s the Democrats.
Yeah, you’re certainly right that this sort of thinking isn’t going to go over well with the people who are too busy thumping their Bibles to read them. Though one might naively think that “free will” came into play somewhere; when my fundamentalist family would travel, many of the hotels offered “adult” pay-per-view entertainments. Ya know what? We didn’t order them. Imagine!
I will grudgingly give Romney credit for a rather pander-free answer (especially for him). Granted, it’s harder to flip-flop on this than his abortion and gay rights stances. He didn’t have to keep quiet on Marriott’s board in order to be elected MA governor, after all.
All the BIG CUPS were already taken by the porn movies.
Marriott is also known for its anti-labor policies. I can’t wait for Perkins to bring up the bad treatment of poor Christian hotel workers unable to tithe as much as they might wish.
And of course their beloved non-candidate Fred Thompson is about as substantial and has about as much to offer as those cardboard cutouts of actors you see at Blockbuster. I can’t wait until his non-campaign starts.
50% of Christian men are addicted to porn?? I have nothing to base this on, but that seems way, way higher than the general population.
Keep in mind that anyone willing to answer a poll on christianet is likely to consider themselves addicted to porn if they’ve (1) ever seen it, or (2) have ever had any desire to see it (again).
Ah, thoughtcrime.
I would argue with the contention that there is such a thing as addiction to pornography.
That’s a phrase that I’ve only ever heard my hard-core Christian friends use when discussing the horrible state of this nation*. I haven’t seen any clinical studies about addiction to pornography.
If someone knows of such a study and could point me to it, I would appreciate it.
*Cry me a river. Better yet, go out and make sure the poor are fed and clothed so that they don’t have to sell crack on the streets.
That’s probably the most reasonable - actually, the only reasonable - thing I’ve ever heard Mitt say.
Addicted? As in, they’re throwing down $11.99 every six hours on the Playboy channel?
I would argue with the contention that there is such a thing as addiction to pornography.
Some people can get addicted to anything. People do form obsessions with things like shopping, gambling, etc. that aren’t traditional addictions.
That said, Em is right. Their definition of “addicted” is, “I saw a picture of a naked woman once, and I wanted to see more, so therefore I’m an addict!“
Probably 50% is a little low for younger unmarried men.
What I find amusing is that every time we hear about a rapist/other sex offender, we hear about how “he got started on his path through a porn addiction.” Newsflash: The majority of men have used porn.
“Addicted? As in, they’re throwing down $11.99 every six hours on the Playboy channel?”
Well, I remember near the end of that disgusting Ted Klaudt affadavit, the police found a video called “Teen Sneakers.” The centerpiece of the pervert’s legislative career was legislating “moral value” against not only sex offenders like himself, but sex itself (abortion, contraception, etc.)
I think the thing with Thompson is that lots of people think they’re voting for D.A. Arthur Branch.
Branch/Bauer ‘08 - if you like Fox News(TM), you’ll love Fox Government(TM)!
Isn’t this reason enough to hate Romney?
Yeah, but they don’t give you the money shot in hotel porn. At least that’s what I’ve heard.
Interesting stat: the average length that a porn is watched in a hotel: 7-minutes. I guess most people figure out the plot by then.
I usually figure it out in 46 seconds.
Plot? You mean there’s supposed to be a plot?
I figure the 7 minutes is spent staring at the ginormous cockes and listening to the fake orgasimic moans from the womenz.
“Make some noise honey so that they can get off.”
wayward — but their savior d’jour is Fred (can’t look any sadder than a hound dog) Thompson.
Never fear he’ll set them on fire, just like he does all his lady friends, past girlfriends and wife.
I think his handlers honestly beleive that if all his former girls friends have only nice things to say about him (after the alleged check clears of course) all the women of America will swoon and say “Oh if only I had a man that I could say nice things about after we’re through, he must be a gem. I want him, I want him! [gasp, moan, head for the vibrator]
No, he’s substantive. Substantially a bought-and-paid-for-lobbyist and such a creep that he leaked Watergate investigation documents to Nixon.
Well, maybe you’re right about the cardboard bit: “Fred is so complete a honking phony. He’s a walking parody of gravitas. The ultimate empty suit.”
Maybe we can compromise and say that he’s empty when he needs to be right, and substantive when he needs to be a slimeball.
Romney’s right not to cave on this one. If the fundies are able to get porn out of hotel rooms, then they’ll just move on to Phase Two: getting sex out of hotel rooms.
That’s probably the most reasonable - actually, the only reasonable - thing I’ve ever heard Mitt say.
And I’d be more inclined to give him credit for it if believed for an instance that he would have said the same thing if he did not have this particular conflict of interest.
Shorter Mitt: What part of “It’s only business” do these
idiotsvoters not understand. Why would there be womenz in porn?

Jeff, mds:
One of the saddest things about the internet is that when you come out with funny posts like the last two, you can’t see us laughing like hell. Well, I am.
I’d just like to know how many people access CleanHotels.com to find out which hotels to avoid.
Bitter Scribe: Me, just now. Apparently there is a lot less pr0n available than I had imagined. Darn.
mds: Bwahahaha!! Now I’m also sad that I’m at work and can’t make the awesome pootie graphic that is dancing in my head. MST3000k style.
Marriott is offering 70 types of pornography??? I didn’t even know there WERE that many, and if Marriott is offering 70 types, there has to be at least 100 they aren’t offering. I have GOT to broaden my horizons! There are at least 150 types of porn I am totally ignorant of and missing out on!
cleanhotels.com hmmm I’m wondering if there is a hotel that is offereing Bible based porn
With Ron Jeremy starring as Onan!
mds, I first thought you wrote “humping their bibles” !
The mental picture I got was High-larious.

That’s what ROFL is for!
MAJeff -
LOL!
But which part should Jeff Stryker be cast for?
Lot. Jenna Jamison and some other woman star (like I’d know any) will have to play the daughters who get him drunk.
I’ll be tuning in for “The Last Supper Orgy” though.
We have a winner. Everyone else should probably go home.
According to commenters at Slacktivist, there is slash fiction based on the Left Behind series. Hell, it already has characters named Buck Williams and Rayford Steele (no, really). And it could characterized as violent eschatological porn. Anyway, they brought it on themselves.

You mean, like a marriage license, Mitt?
I call shenanigans!
Figures… Utah, the Mormon state, is the biggest porn consumer of the USA, thanks to hotel ppv.
I thought that the right wing is for the free-market. If Marriott can make a profit selling pornography to guests then isn’t it the correct true blue American thing to do?
Now THAT’s fucking outrageous!
Oh, you mean like an abortion, Mr. Romney? Well, that sure is refreshing! And here I was, thinking that you’re a Christian fascist wingnut who thinks that he knows best what rights every group of people should have! I’m thrilled to see that I was wrong.
I actually find this whole thing to be HILARIOUS. I’d probably feel bad for him if I didn’t hate his fucking guts so much. Instead I’m going to sit back and watch him do the Mitt Dance of digging himself into a huge hole with fundamentalists and then deny everything he said in attempt to climb back out.
I think this is time for my stupid pr0n joke:
“why is it a bad idea to let a male porn star fill up your car with gasoline?”
…”because right before he finishes filling up the tank, he pulls the nozzle out and sprays gas all over the hood of your car.”
What a surprise. I wonder if he would get behind my proposed legislation for dealing with the whole Girls Gone Wild mess?
http://cruellablog.blogspot.com/2007/05/pornographers-gone-wild.html
I think it’s going a bit far perhaps, being a bit unreasonable maybe, to say that Marriott is a “major pornographer,” but even we Godless Liberals cannot deny the fact that they are indeed the Adulterer’s Accomplice.
Whenever I see a hotel or motel that’s more than a couple years old, especially those little roadside ones we’ve got here in Florida, I always think, if even one percent of the love and pleasure gotten in those rooms were retained in the rooms, and if love and pleasure were somehow visible in some ultra-violet spectrum, then ultra-violet-perceiving aliens on Alpha Centauri should be able to see that hotel or motel with the naked eye.
Marriott is offering 70 types of pornography??? I didn’t even know there WERE that many…
Never played Google Sepeku eh?
Fire up a text editor and choose a Japanese Kanji font. Now enter random strings of Kanji into Google Image Search. You “win” when you find something that makes you want to scoop your eyes out with a spoon so you can clean your optic nerve off with Windex.
OK team, let’s get started. We’ve got 70 different types of hardcore porn to list. I’ll get the ball rolling:
Chunk-style!
Well, I’m out of ideas.
Y’know, the easiest way to take the profit out of PPV porn would be… to allow it free, over the air. Like in Europe.
Other styles of porn:
Windexing.
Frapperliciousing.
Twenterizing.
So is Mitt Romney a wingnut who poses as a liberal Northeastern Republican, or is Mitt Romney a liberal Northeastern Republican who poses as a wingnut?
Or is Mitt Romney someone who will say whatever the voters want to hear in order to get elected?
Free porn? I thought that was what the internet was for.
wayward my friend, internet porn is the only consistently profitable internet-only industry.
They are skeptical of Romney already, due to his being a Mormon and his wife donating to Planned Parenthood WAY BACK IN 1992 or something…they recently mentioned this on CNN as something the GOP-fundie faction is upset about.
This porn-PR sure won’t help!
Who would pay for internet porn when you don’t even have to be looking to find it for free? Seriously.
True indeed. Blessed is the hotel with the free 54Mbps wireless service.
So I can check my work email, I mean.
PPV is teh lame when you’ve got the intertubes.

“Marriott is also known for its anti-labor policies. I can’t wait for Perkins to bring up the bad treatment of poor Christian hotel workers unable to tithe as much as they might wish.”
Not to veer too far from the subject but I work for Marriott and while they are a non-union company, they offer what I would categorize as a fairly standard - and perhaps above standard - benefits package (i.e. full medical dental to all f/t employees etc). I have found the wages have been fair as well. I was actually on pool status (not actively working but still an employee)while at school and got a raise anyway because they revaluate the wages every so many months. You also get alot of perks, like discount rates on hotels, promotional discounts on various products, etc. Now this is just my own experience, however I googled “marriott anti-labor practices” and didn’t find much. But if anyone has any links I’d like to look at them. BTW, we don’t have any hardcore porn either..although we just switched from satellite to cable so it could be on it’s way for all I know.
And really, hotel porn is only for good zealots that can’t get away with having such things in their own home while they are away from home on business trips.
Hotel porn isn’t even real porn. It’s just, in the words of Bill Hicks, “Bobbin’ man ass.” People who have access to real porn don’t watch hotel porn. It’s just the people that can’t get it elsewhere.
Well, it’s delightful watching the fundies eat their own.
And I gotta say, some years ago, i was with some friends in a hotel in Atlanta, drunk off our faces, doing dramatic readings from the Book Of Mormon (which was thoughtfully provided along with the bible, and i believe the mariott guy’s life story) and I gotta tell you.. there’s alot of “shafting” and “covering” goin’ on in that there book.
I can leave the TV off but how do I know Jeanna Fine and “Hot LOLcat on LOLcat Action VI” won’t spring out of the minibar and assault my little girl? Mr. Marriott, I think I’ll be taking my business and, Mr. Romney, my *vote* elsewhere.
Mitt Romney: Anal Intruder…

cara, i thought the same thing re: “adults accessing their rights that i may feel are distasteful”. bleah, good one romney.
[…] On the domestic front, the big story is Mitt Romney’s hardcore hypocrisy about hardcore porn. […]
I like your proposal, Cruella.
JoAsakura, minor deity of Jelly Babies, (Jeez, what a name!)
Romney is no fundie. He’s a corporatist through and through, which is why he’s leading in the money race.
If it makes tons of money for his rich-and-powerful-dude friends, Mitt’s for it. Doesn’t matter how low or detestable it is!
I’m guessing that cleanhotels.com is used, by the majority of its visitors, to find out which hotels and chains to avoid because they don’t have porn.
