Update: For people who were asking if they could help Beaver out, she has a PayPal—check the comments here and look on Biting Beaver to get her email address. I would like to add that if you want to continue giving financially in this direction, there are thousands upon thousands of women in this country that need abortions a year and don’t have the money to pay for them. In order to help them, many states have abortion access funds, and you better believe that they need all the money they can get. You can donate directly to the National Network of Abortion Funds, or if you want to give to a specific community, here’s a list of individual abortion funds you can contact and donate to directly.
Well, bad news, everyone. Biting Beaver, who was brave enough to tell us all her horror story about trying to obtain emergency contraception in rural Ohio but only being able to get it basically as the window of opportunity was closing, has discovered that she didn’t take the EC in enough time and she is indeed pregnant. She’s announced that she’s going to get an abortion, which, as Violet Socks points out, will probably just escalate the abusive comments and emails Beaver’s getting from men who are just so damn concerned about the sanctity of life that they have to tell her she’s a whore and a cunt and she deserves to die.
Beaver has a very angry post up right now and I think all of us can empathize with her rage.
I resent that Dubhe was forgotten. I resent that I continue to get emails and hate comments because I took EC. I resent the misogynist language that people are using to describe me. I resent that there are so many that would have me put a gun to my head, or, better yet, they’d do it for me all because I had sex. I resent that something which should be so simple will require me to go to that clinic 4 times and walk through those hateful, nasty protesters over and over again to fix. I resent that while I worry about a fucking clinic bomber the man, who was wearing that condom when it broke, only needs to worry about how he will take time off of work.
I resent that this potential life is given more consideration than any of the lives that will be poorly affected by it. I resent that I need to cough up $450.00 for the fucking abortion pill and that my insurance won’t touch it. I resent that I am made to feel like I must explain myself or else face the wrath of the psychos. I resent that the same sort of shame is being forced onto me by this as the shame that was forced onto me when I was raped as a child.
I resent that if I talk to people about it, about my feelings, about my fear and my anxiety that I may very well be the target of death threats, hatred and condemnation.
I resent that so many people would like to see me hide myself because I was awful enough to consent to sex. I resent that this is an issue that, while I need, desire and want to talk to people about, I must hide from everyone because to tell them would mean that I instantly become a ‘worthless cum guzzling whore’ who deserves to be ‘brutally raped before being slaughtered in the most painful way I can think of’.
I resent that something so painful to deal with, something so terrifying and life altering is something that instead of getting support over I am condemned over. Do you know why I haven’t posted something long and thoughtful about this? Because I’m tired. I’m fucking tired. I can only be kicked back to the ground so many times before I start thinking that I need to just lay there and stop fighting against it.
I think an important point worth considering here is that every doctor who turned his nose up to her requests for EC had good reason to know that this is what would happen—she would get pregnant, she’d have to get an abortion, she’d have to pay for it out of pocket, and she’d have to tolerate picket lines of people screaming insults at her about how her gender makes her worthless in their eyes. So basically, they set her up to be humiliated and put out like this, on top of the physical suffering that comes as a side effect of RU-486. Being doctors, they can’t claim to be innocent of the knowledge that this was going to happen, but they consoled themselves that it was okay to make Beaver suffer because she “deserved” it; she wouldn’t be in this situation if she hadn’t had sex, right?
What strikes me as interesting about that line of thought is it’s exactly the excuses that apologists for torture are making about the people they “get” to torture. Hell, they must have done something wrong, even though we have no court of law to prove it. The excuses are thin as paper, but just enough to make someone feel justified in power tripping on another person.

Any chance we could take up a collection?
Um, wow. I wish there was more that i could say, but words fail me when people are that godsfuckingawful.
Second mythago’s idea, although i myself wouldn’t be able to contribute unfortunately.
While the worm can / porn thread has gone way past useful, here’s some important stuff.
Certain people are worried about women being objectified in the abstract via pictures/movies/writing that women may or may not have consented to, while this woman was literally turned into an object by a series of people who objected to her being an adult and legally able to consent to having sex.
If the forces of repression had their way, she would be taken into “protective custody” and denied the right to abort, all in the name of “life”. What a pile of crap…
She should absolutely sue that doctor that gave her the runaround for not being married or raped and wouldn’t return her calls–for the $450 and then some. Obviously the suit wouldn’t be settled in time for an abortion period, let alone a medical abortion like she’s having, but just to establish a precedent saying that you can’t fucking do this to people.
I’d also like to see a similar suit for women denied EC by a pharmacist or doctor, making him/her pay 18 years of child support. This isn’t fucking fun and games. This is basically impregnating someone against her will.
[…] This post is not for the faint of heart, as it is about a woman in a very, very difficult situation. My heart goes out to her, and I hope everything works out OK. […]
Is there no recourse through an organization like the AMA or licensing angency to protest such behavior from so called medical professionals
The comments made me see red. Really, some people are just wastes of perfectly good skin. On what planet is it not ok to have condom-protected sex with one’s boyfriend? It’s quite literally crazed.
Yeah, I would seriously like to know of a way I can send BB something to help her out. I saw Dubhe saying that a paypal account had been set up, but nothing about how to get to it. Anybody have any info?
Any chance we could take up a collection?
I’ll third that. And this story should be tatooed on the forehead of Will Saletan and every other “moderate” on abortion who thinks the pro-lifers are actually concerned about ending the practice.
bitingbeaver@yahoo.com
You can donate there. I second the notion for a lawsuit. Hell, make it a class action.
JackGoff, et al: you can access it through her e-mail address, bitingbeaver at yahoo dot com. When you click on “Send Money” in your own PayPal account, there’s a spot for the recipient’s e-mail address.
If you dig up her email address there is a paypal account attached to it. They did not want to post the email on the blog.
I would like to take the thoughts on BBs blog a step further and in recognition of the probability in the future of the Authoritarians controlling all aspects of reproduction. Or perhaps I should say refusal to reproduce. We need to know what EC is made of and how to produce it. We need to know how long it keeps in storage and purchase a goodly supply of it. We need an effective method of overnight distribution. There are things we can do to see to it that what happened to BB does not happen to anyone else. Certainly ther are legal punative options that should be considered and persued. But, in the meantime, I can’t help but wonder if when BB posted that the condom broke one or more of us had had the pill, wouldn’t we have sent it overnight mail? Of course we would. It simply never occurred to any of us or BB either that getting EC would be this difficult. Now we know. What shall we do?
Can’t send much but I will. This is really fucking infuriating (and, if I may add, an example of the kind of real problems women face while we’re infighting about shoes and makeup).
This makes me want to volunteer at my local Planned Parenthood. Or to *do* something.
I think it’s time for a pledge drive. For every troll she gets, we get somebody to pledge a dollar. Make these fuckers literally pay for their words. What do you say?
She should absolutely sue that doctor that gave her the runaround for not being married or raped and wouldn’t return her calls–for the $450 and then some.
I agree. It’s about time the people who live in the real world started speaking the fuck out in the courts.
I like the idea of a pledge drive. I seem to remember a similar think happening when Fred Phelps picketed a bar, for every minute they were there a dollar was donated. I volunteer to set it up if no one else will.
IMO, it cannot be emphasized strongly enough, in enough places, that BB was apparently sent potentially lethal herbal recipes, masquerading as alternative emergency contraceptives.
That’s evil. That’s attempted murder. And that’s from people who call themselves “pro-life.”
Irene
Plucky pluck, do it and we can all shove readers your way. Every troll she gets, dammit. Make them pay.
If people can even spare $5 that helps.
This reminded me of the hippocratic oath that all doctors must take on becoming an MD. It specifically states “Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy”. This archaism is left over from the times of ancient Greece. To those doctors who hide behind their oath, I ask them “Why did doctors assist in the development of VX nerve agent”, or what about the Tuskegee experiments, where hundreds of black men were delibrately infected with syphilis. Where was that oath then? Doctors who use their hippocratic oath to shield themselves to the detriment of others are among the most heinous of hypocrites.
BB was apparently sent potentially lethal herbal recipes, masquerading as alternative emergency contraceptives.
I really hope there was legal action taken against the sender.
Excellent. As soon as I get home from work I’m going to figure out exactly how to go about it. (Any suggestions?)
This is so wrong and evil and bad. I don’t want my daughter growing up in this america. Just think about all the women this happens to who this happens to every day that don’t have access to the internet.
To overuse a turn of phrase, the Guy Fawkes masks are in the mail.
Wow that is just terrible
what a nasty situation to be in.
Oh, and ginmar can we call a truce on the feministe thread? (I would post there but I’m at work and for some reason can’t comment there while using this browser.)
Seems this is more important.
Dude, in a case like this, truce is always asssumed—at least by me. I really don’t give a shit what we’ve disagreed on before. BB needs help, or somebody does, whatever. That comes first.
Yay! I’m glad.
Now how exactly should we go about this?
I’m going to send BB an email when I get home to make sure I wouldn’t be stepping on her toes or anything, and to find out exactly what she needs.
Hey, important shit is important shit. What’s important is helping other women and other feminists. Of course, once the crisis is over, we can go back to fighting.
Seriously, though, that’s what feminism IS. When we have to, we pull together. I hope any feminist anywhere any time could need help from any other feminist she’s disagreed with and know she’d get it, because that’s what it’s all about. At least I like to think it is, dammit.
BB’s boyfriend is taking over their blog for now because the trolls have been really bad, but if everybody puts up a link that should do the trick. I really like the idea of a trollathon, but that would be too much, I think, for BB, because, you know, it’s directed at her. Shame we couldn’t find a way to donate a buck per troll every time we get trolled, to some cause that they really frickin’ hate.
Any amount helps. BB and her partner say whatever extra they get will go the next woman who needs funds.
It’s time for an underground railroad.
emails Beaver’s getting from men who are just so damn concerned about the sanctity of life that they have to tell her she’s a whore and a cunt and she deserves to die…
There is something about that line that is disturbing and yet funny in a “in your face kind of way”.
I’m an older guy (54 in 3 days) who has an old school feminist girlfriend (57).
Sometimes the fire in your belly doesn’t burn as hot when you get older. She still believes what she always believed, but she’s weary.
When I email her that line, it will make her laugh and will fire her up again - at least for a while. Keep ‘em coming.
Feminist blogger denied emergency contraception, gets pregnant…
Last month, feminist blogger Biting Beaver wrote about a nightmarish experience she’d had with a broken condom and a callous medical system that refused to give her emergency contraception over the counter or by prescription. Instead of getting medica…
This reminded me of the hippocratic oath that all doctors must take on becoming an MD. It specifically states “Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. This archaism is left over from the times of ancient Greece.
Sorry, RayCeeYa, but even that won’t fly. Modern MDs don’t take the ancient Greek Hippocratic Oath, and many medical schools now don’t actually require even the modified, modernized version; these unprofessional bastards don’t even have that to hide behind.
The old version may have included swearing not to assist abortions–and partially because there were other professionals for that–but it also made budding doctors promise never ever to practice surgery except in cutting for kidney stones and to always let any other doctor stay in their homes as family, among many other strictures.
There’s just no excuses for this kind of malpractice, and I hope Beaver finds a way, once she’s got her own house in order, to take these people down hard. And I hope she knows we’ve all got her back as best we can.
Once again we see that the “pro-life” crowd really has no belief except that all women should be pregnant at every opportunity and carry that burden the rest of their lives.
EC is not abortion unless you take the patently insane belief that life begins before pregnancy.
And considering the lack of fundamentalist Christians I see burying a bloody kotex with the full funeral rites including a name for the miscarriage, it’s pretty clear how deep their hypocrisy goes.
Utterly revolting. I can’t believe things like this happen in my country.
[…] Through Amanda, I learned that the Biting Beaver, who last month wrote about the gantlet she had to run in order to obtain Plan B when a condom broke during sex, is now pregnant as a result of being given the runaround from so many doctors and hospitals that she missed her window of opportunity for preventing pregnancy. So, now, she has to pony up $450 for an abortion, and worse, she has to deal with the emails and comments at her blog wishing her death and worse for daring to have sex; she has to visit the clinic four times and face angry, hostile protesters each time; and she has to go through a medical procedure to terminate a pregnancy that could have been avoided. And the guy who was wearing the condom when it broke? His biggest worry is getting time off in order to go to the appointment with her. Nobody’s bothering him about having sex. […]
Publishing the doctors’ names is probably not a bad idea. Hell, if the anti-abortion people can have their websites…
When her story first was told, I didn’t think I could be more horrified. And yet, now I am. Horrible, horrible, horrible doctors who hopefully can lose their license and a big chunk of cash too. No excuse at all for their behavior.
And less excuse for the hateful commenters.
Except, I don’t think that would be a good idea, conscidering that it would give the really scary homicidal trolls a more specific idea of BB’s location. Remember, these are the generous people who tried to get her to kill herself with deadly herbs.
What’s scary is that all those hypothetical situations which us pro-choicers used to explain to the other side that not all situations requiring EC/abortion involve unmarried, single, carelessly promiscious multiple abortion lovers….well, BB *is* in that situation. Long term monogonous, *protection using!* sex, and the worst happens. Oh, but she’s still a ‘whore’ - somehow.
Where she is at is a perfect example of what happens to real people when they’re denied their legal choices. It’s crazy. (And it’s terrible that she is in that situation. Don’t want to make it sound like she’s a great example and that’s it.)
What can be done is tracing the IP addresses of those who e-mail that hateful crap. Remember, your average anti likes to operate under the cloak of anonymity; any clue that you might know who they are IRL sends them scurrying away. And most of these idiots are too dumb to make up a throwaway address on Yahoo or Hotmail–there seems to be a high concentration of them on AOL. AOL may be a lousy ISP, but not when it comes to tracking people down–as someone who received anti hate mail on a pretty frequent basis I speak from experience on that.
I went to PayPal and sent some money to BB. It’s not much, because I’m living paycheck to paycheck myself, but hopefully enough people will kick in to put a sizeable dent in that $450.
Ditto, RumbleLizard.
Another good reason for eliminting the need for a prescription for medications for adults. Although women still might have to work around pharmacists (or other sellers) who have their own, or their employers’, objections to contraception, at least one “gatekeeper” would be out of the picture.
I know I’m in the minority here in believing that sellers should be free to decide what they will sell, or to whom, expanding the numbers of sellers, by eliminating the need for a prescription, would aid women who want or need contraceptives. This was a particularly unfortunate scenario, because she did take precautions. If a prescription was not needed, perhaps she would have a “backup” EC pill already in hand.
“I went to PayPal and sent some money to BB. It’s not much, because I’m living paycheck to paycheck myself, but hopefully enough people will kick in to put a sizeable dent in that $450.”
I’ve only used paypal for ebay, how do I send money directly to her?
“JackGoff, et al: you can access it through her e-mail address, bitingbeaver at yahoo dot com. When you click on “Send Moneyâ€? in your own PayPal account, there’s a spot for the recipient’s e-mail address.”
Whoops, nevermind. I’ll read more carefully next time. Thanks for the info.
I sent a little cash as well. Next payday I’ll be giving more to the National Network of Abortion Funds because this situation is just insane. Thanks, Amanda, for posting the links.
Just donated what I could. Like others, I’m living paycheck to paycheck, but I figure I can spare it more than BB can.
Another good reason for eliminting the need for a prescription for medications for adults.
Um, no. Thanks for using somebody else’s personal tragedy as a way to bang on your favorite drum, though.
I recall being told the “EC and birth control pills kill slready-fertilized eggs” myth in high school. And good little right-of-center Christian girl that I was at the time, I fell for it. I know better now. You’d think a licensed physician would, too. Just illustrates how easily this patriarchal bullshit is spread.
Why not, mythago? For that particular medication, it could have eliminated this situation entirely. Even if no pharmacy near her stocked it, if it was OTC she could have easily have had it overnighted from drugstore.com or somewhere like that.
So rather than a troll pledge drive, as ginmar said it would be upsetting for BB, should we just all donate a straight-up sum of money?
Re: an underground railroad of EC
I’ve been stockpiling EC for a little while now (it’s readily available in the city where I live, but not so much in the small towns where my brothers and sister-in-law go to college), and I’m starting to feel like we really do need some sort of network where people will know whom to contact if they are in need of EC.
Any thoughts on the best way to achieve this? Anyone remember the days of Jane in Chicago? It’s feeling like friends and family aren’t enough to help the many, many BBs of the world…
I think what I’m going to do if I don’t hear any response from BB (I don’t want to be intrusive) is to find out the average cost of an abortion in the US and try to raise that money for the fund Amanda posted a link to.
And of course throw BB some help, too.
Even if no pharmacy near her stocked it, if it was OTC she could have easily have had it overnighted from drugstore.com or somewhere like that.
You’re assuming the pharmacies in rural Ohio are a lot more liberal than the doctors. And that being able to ‘overnight’ an extremely time-sensitive drug still means you will get it in time.
That aside, “Plan B should be OTC” is not the same as “All drugs should be OTC”.
“Why not, mythago? For that particular medication, it could have eliminated this situation entirely. Even if no pharmacy near her stocked it, if it was OTC she could have easily have had it overnighted from drugstore.com or somewhere like that.”
For this medication, yes, for alot of other medications, good god no. Just imagine throwing on the shelves drugs like blood pressure medicines that need to be given at proper dosages with close supervision (and the hundreds of other drugs with similar issues) and letting people fend for themselves.
[…] Amanda, at Pandagon, has been spreading the word about a feminist blogger (BB), who being denied prompt access to emergency contraception (EC) has found herself pregnant and now is seeking an abortion. I have worked in and around the EC access movement for years, and fortunately, here in Illinois, we have an enlightened governor who has mandated that pharmacists fill any EC prescription. […]
I agree with lizzie bee that we need to get an EC network set up. Even in supposedly “liberal” places like California it can be insanely hard to get. It would be fabulous if we could set up a central website, perhaps a division of one of our blogs, with several providers spread out over the country, each of whom could be responsible for a specific region to overnight the medicine to. And of course, we would assign at least two people per region, so that if one package is delayed or lost there will still be another one that hopefully gets there in time. And if the no-mail-delivery-on-Sundays becomes a problem, hopefully there will be enough of us that someone will be within driving distance of the person who needs EC and be able to take an hour or two out of their day to hand-deliver some. After all, we really do have to band together on this.
What do the rest of you think? Any ways to make this more efficient? Can anyone volunteer hosting so we can get this set up and publicized so that women can reach us when we’re needed?
PS - also, if we cannot make deliveries to farther places within our distribution areas when the EC is needed on a day when the mail isn’t running (for instance, my car cannot drive on freeways due to a lack of structural integrity, limiting my delivery range), we can arrange to meet people at “halfway points” to give them EC as well.
Yeah, she’s quoted fourteen trolls on her last post, and an additional number on an earlier post which I quoted on my blog. I like the idea of donating a dollar a troll. The comments are quite horrifying.
I like the ideas for getting EC to people. Has anyone used these sites?
http://ec.princeton.edu/
http://www.getthepill.com/
Of course, they still depend on having a pharmacy you can get to that will sell you the damn things. A network of people willing to get the pills physically to those who need them would be a wonderful thing.
Sent her my lunch money for the week - if the munchkins can survive on PB&J, I can lay off the Thai, no?
If BB is going to have to walk through picket lines - is there a way we can be one massive pro-life escort? I don’t see how we could advertise and keep her safe though. Maybe an Ohio-wide Clinic support/escort day? I may not get to support her personally, but for every woman with the courage of BB - there must be 10’s or 100’s who are going through the same thing.
*sigh* I hope she turns the poisoner over to the police, and they *DO* something about it!
I’ve outlined the plans for an Emergency Kindness network here at my blog, but I will need help setting this up and running it. Any takers? Let’s stop planning and start doing! It’s obvious that we can’t depend on pharmacies, so there’s nothing to be done but taking this into our own hands.
(If anyone wants to discuss this realtime with me, my AIM is DaoSanCai.)
San Cai, I think this sounds like a good idea.
Rumblelizard, perhaps you would be willing to get involved? And to anyone else on this thread, help would be greatly appreciated. Part of my problem in setting this up is that I am still two and a half weeks shy of my eighteenth birthday, which severely limits my resources. I can organize Janes, and once I turn 18 I can purchase EC, as well as mailing it and making local deliveries. However, at the very least I need someone I can share the responsibility of running the program with. I will need help setting up a paypal to which people can donate to help with costs (we will be paying for a lot of our expenses- EC, postage, gas- out of pocket! This is a program that will rely heavily on its members being willing to inconvenience themselves a bit to help others, I’m afraid). I will hopefully be able to get us a domain and start setting up a website sometime this week, but this is a really big job, and to tell the truth even though I’ve got a plan drafted I don’t know much about how to organize such a large-scale operation. So again, if anyone can help, please pitch in!
What BB went through to get EC was horrible, and it really sucks that she got pregnant. I paypal’ed what I could and I hope that it helps, or that she can use it to help someone else in a similar situation (and really, think about how many women in her area probably don’t even know about Plan B, and wouldn’t have the ability or resources to find it even if they did know).
However - as satisfying as it is to blame the assholes who wouldn’t prescribe or provide Plan B for her, it just isn’t realistic to talk about suing them. And really, there’s no way to know if the length of time that BB had to wait to get the pills made a difference.
Because of the way Plan B works - by preventing ovulation (see here for an explanation) - it is possible that BB had already ovulated before sex or before she started trying to get the EC. That’s why there is a 5% or so failure rate, even when it is used in the first 24 hours, and one reason why suing a dr. or pharmacist for a particular pregnancy wouldn’t work.
Maybe they could be sued for some kind of civil rights violation?
She is incredibly brave for blogging about this. I can’t believe the horrible and incredibly ignorant comments that have been left at her site.
It’s not really practical to sue, but it could be done. Probably better just to out them, though.
For Biting Beaver: Just donate $5 to her directly through Paypal.
For the Cause: Every time her blog is trolled, donate $0.10 (or whatever) to Planned Parenthood.
Irene,
I can’t get to BB’s blog (damn work firewall), but I have several friends who are herbalists, and have done a decent bit of research on abortion-inducing herbs.
Even the best and safest ones can be quite dangerous, and almost all of them are poisonous in high doses. So maybe the potentially lethal herb recommendations were attempted murder–but not necessarily. A lot of the recipes in Klaus or Culpepper for “inducing menstration” are potentially lethal.
Does anyone know if she’s hit the target cost yet? I’m going to donate to NNAF, but I’ll set some aside for her if she still hasn’t met her own expenses.
I know I’m in the minority here in believing that sellers should be free to decide what they will sell, or to whom, expanding the numbers of sellers, by eliminating the need for a prescription, would aid women who want or need contraceptives.
While I agree with you on EC Libby, this is a bad general practice for a couple reasons. One is that people tend to self-medicate on the basis of what feels good, rather than what is genuinely making them better. Add to that the general disinclination for Americans to do the proper research into their medical options and you’ve got a bad drug plan.
The other reason is that many modern medicines are extremely complex chemically, and you need to be supervised during your treatment regiment. Even drugs you might not suspect of having complex interactions can lead to situations as severe as liver damage or coma if not used properly and under a doctor’s care.
Monday Morning Blogroll: “Via” Edition (Part 2)…
Before I end up throwing my computer through the nearest wall because Blogger keeps eating this post, let’s get on to Part 2! Has this been happening to anybody else lately? The last two weeks have been dreadful…either the “word verification” thin…
I agree with this. While I don’t think it’s a good idea to start off with BB’s doctor because, like Godless Heathen said, some of those craven fuckers who’ve been trolling her blog would probably use it to further harrass her.
But I do think it would be a phenomenal idea to have a sort of open-source website where women who encounter MDs who are reluctant and/or who outright refuse to provide EC can post that information. That way, when other women are looking for an MD in their particular area, they could look it up by ZIP code or something, and they would know which doctors to avoid.
“Maybe they could be sued for some kind of civil rights violation?”
I’m sure BB could make a very good case against these medical personel for a civil rights suit. And if she can’t, then she and other women like her will be able to once I become an attorney in a few years. I used to be a nurse with an emphasis in ob/gyn medicine. I am currently a schoolteacher, and in another few years I hope to be a civil rights/civil liberties attorney and do legal work for organizations like Planned Parenthood, NARAL, the National Organization for Women, etc. I would also do discrimination cases, and I think BB’s case would be a slam-dunk case, especiall if I was representing her. I’m a staunch feminist and everytime I read news reports and personal stories such as BB’s it just gets me fired up and makes me want to go to Law School even more so that I can protect and free women one law suit at a time. Also, I would like to comment on the disgusting emails that BB has been receiving from these “men.” And I use the term “men” lightly in quotations because I don’t view these scumbags as men. Anyone who would verbally harass and degrade a woman they have never even met with that kind of disgusting language is not even close to being a man…he’s just an immature, insecure little boy. I have had an abortion myself once, and I am also a professional fashion/glamour model. Some of the work I do in the modeling business includes calendars and pin-up posters, although I refuse to show any of my p private body parts. Because of both my modeling career and my past abortion, I have been called the exact same vulgar names by men that BB has been called. I have even been verbally degraded like BB simply for the fact that I’m a feminist and I want to be an attorney someday. I have given a lot of thought as to why men, er I mean BOYS, would feel the need to lash out at women so violently. The only answer I can conclude is that it stems from some deepseated fear or insecurity. These males are intimidated by the thought or presence of a strong woman who takes charge of her own body and her own life without a man’s influence or say-so. Women like me and BB are strong women who are secure with ourselves and our sexuality. We don’t feel the need to make excuses for what we do or the choices we make in life. It is that strength and independence that makes men feel afraid and insecure and makes them feel the need to “put us back in our places.” My heart goes out to BB in her time of need, and to all of those pathetic losers out there who wasted their time judging this poor woman whom they’ve never even met because they have no life of their own, here’s a great big FUCK YOU! from me and BB to all of them. Someday I will be honored to represent women like BB in a court of law and stand up for their rights and their dignity.
hmmm, the web site for docs that won’t give EC, treat rape victims like crap, yada, yada…
how about a site like holla back? hehe
seems to work pretty well. you put up a pic of the doc or clinic and add your story of discrimination. i would think at that point we could start talking about class action law suits. we would need a pattern though. one woman is not enough, however, 10 women turned away from the same clinic/doc/nurse…now there’s a pattern and multiple witnesses.
i might try to couple the Holla back theme to the emercency kindness, show the offenders which will again show the need for sites like emergency kindness. show the assholes, provide a positive solution as well as an area for women to share their stories….
i do like the problem solution angle here. we can be as angry as we want, without action adn arganization, nothing changes.
pics seem to work magic, the holla back site, it always amazes me that the men say…what, no big deal…but are afraid to have their pics, their images, linked to their behavior.
i would also like to see if we could set up a “sting” anyone willing to call your local hospital, nurse, clinic, and record the conversation? call and ask for EC, if they lie and say it is an abortion pill, ask for their name…are they sure it is an abortion pill? if they continue with false info - then post it online. Nurse Beatty at INc hospital told me a lie. Period. Gotta start nailing them. For BB, i doubt she can sue it is now her word against theirs. We need to start shaming them, and hurting them financially. Frankly, if I found out my doc was involved in shady activities and lying, I would be taking my body and my money elsewhere.
The Personal: Still Political…
A woman was having sex with her boyfriend and the condom broke. She tried all weekend to find an emergency room doctor who would give her a prescription for emergency contraception, but she was told by every nurse she talked……
“I’m fucking tired. I can only be kicked back to the ground so many times before I start thinking that I need to just lay there and stop fighting against it.”
Clearly, the program is working exactly as its creators hoped.
Lizzie Bee, I’ve been calling for a women’s health underground railroad for years. We need to set it up and have conductors and stationkeepers all over the country NOW, while we can still do it semi-openly, before it becomes a crime to even talk about it.
Just here through clicking links, etc. I’m so pleased to see this thing underway.
I was thinking… trolls and so-called “reasonable” arguers are always complaining when their comments aren’t published. I think every feminism blog should charge for the privelege - if some jerk wants to disagree with the issues, they can pay a few bucks to let their views be known. Upon receipt of payment, the comment gets published, along with mocking commentary.
‘Bout time you womens made some money!
It’s so sad that women have to deal with this bull, but just like Bush, getting elected by millions of preachers all over the country ordering their congregations to vote for the idiot because they think he’s some christian (I’m not religous, but isn’t there a rule somewhere, thall shalt not kill or lie and all the other things all these mightier than thou people, the idiots voted for, are having to resign left and right over. Well i guess they got their votes worth.lol) The funniest thing of all is the fact that all these churches preach no abortion, but does each one who believes in this also go out and make sure kids, who are not wanted but birthed anyway, have all they need in life to be happy, healthy and as rich as all those wanted children the christians have.(right)
I wish you all the luck, if I could I would send you all you need for help.
Step 0
Trainer, you just received me from the Day Care man. Soon, you are going to retrieve my parents from the Day Care lady. I love the warm feel of Magmar’s Flame Body ability, and the sound of your bicycle gears as you ride up and down Cycling Road is my favorite lullaby.
Step 735
Trainer, I’m not sure what species of Pokemon I am yet. What kind of Pokemon were my parents? It’ll take some time for me to hatch.
Step 1067
Trainer, I’m starting to move around inside my egg. I should be getting close to hatching.
Step 2127
Trainer, I’m making noises inside. I’m going to hatch soon!
Step 5355
Trainer, I came out of my egg! Would you like to give a nickname to me?
Step 5360
Trainer, I see that you are looking at my stats. You say that I have a Docile Nature. Is this a bad thing? What are you doing to me, Trainer? I don’t want to go into the PC! It’s dark and scary in there! Help me, Trainer! No…
Step 5400
Trainer, I am okay. I am in Box 1. Bidoof is watching me. He told me about IV’s. Why didn’t you want me Trainer?
One more Pokemon that was deposited. Four more moves that will never be used. Two more types that will never be taken advantage of. Six more base stats that will never be trained.
I feel very sorry for this. BitingBeaver. I know what it’s like to need support and not get it from those you hold close to you. This is a troubling time for anyone to go through, as I have also had to go this with my wife. Most of my sympathy goes out to anyone that depends on robots over the internet for an emotional connection. Sometimes we forget that some people win, and others lose. The nice thing about the internet is that there are infinite continues, whereas in real life you might have to whistle for a cab and when it comes near, notice the license plate said FRESH and there were dice in the mirror. If anything you’d have to say that this cab is rare. That’s when I though, Now forget it’ - ‘Yo homes to Bel Air’
