The ‘Presidential Bust’ of Hillary Clinton. I think I’ll leave the commenting to you all.

The nude study of Senator Hillary Clinton used in creating her first portrait as U.S. President is featured in a documentary now viewable at YouTube.com, the net’s leading video download site. “Hillary’s Bust“, an eight-minute short produced by Goodnight Film, reveals the sexy origins of a statue of the former First Lady planned for display at New York’s Museum of Sex. The film contains the only footage taken of an unclothed preparatory study of Hillary Clinton’s upper torso used for developing the heroic-scaled “Presidential Bust of Hillary Rodham Clinton: First Woman President of the United States of America.”

The documentary reports Hollywood actor Sharon Stone’s recent statements regarding Mrs. Clinton’s potential White House bid as inspiration for her Presidential portrait. The bust’s creator, Daniel Edwards, points out that during the promotion of her most recent Basic Instinct film, Stone sparked a sexual power debate with, “I think it is too soon for her to run. This may sound odd, but a woman should be past her sexuality when she runs. Hillary still has sexual power and I don’t think people will accept that. It’s too threatening.”

“I’ve depicted Hillary Clinton in the traditional manner as befits the head of state — with head held high and face matured with wisdom,” says Edwards, “but with unmistakable ’sexual power’ as a nod to Sharon Stone.” The bust prominently portrays Mrs. Clinton’s cleavage spilling from a lacy, low-cut inaugural gown with her bare shoulders enhanced by a “delicate” nape.

I’ve always found Hillary kind of attractive. (I’m 53 so cut me a little slack).

She’s smart, but she seems a little calculating. She seems to wet her finger and hold it up to the wind.

OOOOh, these are the way the political winds are blowing, so I’ll go with that.

    Too bad,

    She has so much potential.

Funny, I’ve always thought there was a bit of resemblance between Sharon Stone and Hillary–she’d be my first pick to play Mrs. Clinton in a movie.

  3. Rumblelizard

Do they have nude statues of any male presidents? (shudder)

I think it’s dehumanizing to portray Hillary Clinton naked without her consent. It’s a form of objectification and, dare I say it, akin to rape — as if Ms. Clinton’s body is for others to portray, not for her to control.

This is the same sculptor who did the statue of Britney Spears giving birth on the bearskin rug and while I’m no fan of Britney’s, I feel sorry for her that she was portrayed this way.

…I think it’s akin to rape —as if Ms. Clinton’s body is for others to portray, not for her to control.

Ceci n’est pas une…um…French-word-for-body. Methinks you’re stretching the definition of the word “rape” in ways that aren’t very helpful.

  6. the French word for body is “corps”. I agree with you, Sophist. Also, the bust is not a nude.

I am conflicted about the statue. On the one hand, I think that by including Hillary’s breasts in the bust, it sexualizes her in ways that are unhelpful for her political career. But then, why must breasts be sexualized? God, I’m so sick of that! But, they are, breasts are sexualized, and women for having them.

On the other hand, Hillary IS a woman, and it is a change from the popular media images and portrayals of her as pseudo-masculine. I think that for Hillary to be in the position she is in is wonderful, despite whatever policies she represents, and that women in politics should be celebrated. I don’t think I’m expressing this very well, but perhaps the gist of it is that she is a woman, and we need female representatives, and there is something wonderful about representing femininity as powerful instead of as weak and submissive.

I don’t know - can someone help me out?

“Also, the bust is not a nude.”

I can’t tell if she’s supposed to be sporting a bustier or they forgot the nipples. Either way, the damn thing’s freaky looking.

Yeah, I thought she was naked but nippleless. I think that’s the idea–he wants her naked, but to appeal to wingnuttia he has to censor the nipples and claim she’s in an “inaugural gown”.

It’s a bad thing. It isn’t made to support Hillary or women.

It’s a bra or bustier. You can see the underwires. The nudity thing is apparently in a sketch he made before sculpting.
I don’t believe she posed for it, given the other works this guy has done.

    1. This guy does not like women.

    2. Sharon Stone is an idiot.

And that’s all for now from the Department of the Obvious.

  11. This is the same sculptor who did the statue of Britney Spears giving birth on the bearskin rug

I’m pretty sure the intent of the artist in both cases is to mock the banality of the presentation of sex in our culture, so I wouldn’t be so sure that he hates women or is a fundie.

The bust is an insult, whether it was intended to portray Hillary Clinton, or any other woman on earth who didn’t give her consent. The only beautiful thing about this asshole artist’s attempt to gain 15 minutes of fame is that Hillary Clinton just laughs the whole thing off. She’s got more class than any politician alive. I predict that oneday in the not-too-distant future she’ll get to laugh again at the snot-nosed “netroots” deadbeats who go balistic over Carville attacking Dean, but have no problem posting the most vile attacks against Senator Clinton.

I move closer and closer to the center the more I am exposed to the “netroots” Dems. They are as hateful as any rightwing whacko. They are online day and night crooning over Dean and Gore and very little else except maybe throwing ten bucks toward the DNC cause. NOT all of them are guilty as charged, but a great many are. I thank them for turning me into a Hillary Clinton fan.
Any politician who can take such abuse, remain calm and cool and still outpoll every other candidate by a country mile, including Al Gore, gets my vote. Absofuckinglutely. She hasn’t missed a beat. And now that she’s won re-election to the Senate by a landslide, she’s on her way to the Whitehouse.
